Made some yesterday after picking 2 cups of blueberrys off my (few) bushes... they always get ripe about now, most others here in N Fl. get ripe much earlier in the year.

ever use flat beer for your mix liquid?
We use "Krusteas" mix and call them poor mans sourdough,we do this when we don't have a starter going, tastes pretty close to the real thing, we also use "maplean" and make our own syrup,
won't be long till we can have fresh huckleberries in our hotcakes

you can still use the beer,
we only use Krusteas in hunting or fishing camp, The old women makes the batter at the house from scratch.
ever try the maplean? you can make your syrup as thin or as thick as you prefer

Try fresh beer instead, the cakes will be lighter and fluffier than ever.[:)]
