Yeah I read that to my wife this morning from the newspaper.

These kids wouldn't know a constitutional right if it bit them in the ass.

11 students does NOT constitute a protest group. Well maybe 12, if one girl attends or may not. This is worthy of world news ONLY if slanted by the media.

Why not? I think they are making too big a deal of it. Leave that action to the religious types. I simply don't always say "under god". Some of us just are not superstitous or put much stock in false gods.

It's in Boulder. Whadda you expect with all the hippies there? Students are just carrying on the "work" their parents started. That being said, expell the ding-dongs until they can get with the program.

Would someone please tell me WHERE the Constitution mandated total separation of church and state? I know it says that Congress shall not ESTABLISH any religion but it does NOT say that the Government shall not RECOGNIZE or RESPECT any religion. [:(!]

A man can no more diminish God's glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word darkness on the walls of his cell.

as already said, if they don't like the word god simpily don't say it. i can live with that

    BUT

when they walk out of a room while the pledge is being said. that is a traitor's act in my book. they showed total disrespect for the flag and this countrty.

Spider...you're out of luck. No one can show you that because IT AIN'T IN THERE! Just a very liberal interpretation by the libs to garner more votes.

    Meh.

    It's Boulder.

The city that voted to lower it's flags on the anniversary of the Hiroshima bombing.

Having lived and worked there for a number of years, I can attest that Boulder, Colorado has little in common with reality.

So the religious right, who petitioned to put 'under God' in the pledge is now pissed when a group of students wants to return the pledge to what it was for 100+ years?

It is a tempest in a teapot, but really, traitors?

The flag represents a secular (by law) nation. It is just a easy to call those that would tie the flag to a god 'traitors' as they diminish the meaning of the 1st Amendment. How can standing up for one of the true pillars of our society (as trivial as this specific event is) be treasonous or disrespectful of the flag in any way?

People have to get beyond the knee-jerk reaction to events and actually think about the principles involved. These kids are in the right, though it is most likely seeking attention rather than a serious protest.

    Spryor, that's a pretty cool quote. How about this one;

Men can no more create a mighty god by wishing and praying than Mohammad can move a mountain, but it does keep them busy.

    -Me-[:D][;)]

In reality, I say the pledge to my country. I'm sure a god exist for someone somewhere, just not in reality. [8)]

Sounds like these kids have way to much time on their hands. Brats should get a job and start working as well as going to school and get a taste of hard work instead of their parents handing everything to them on a silver platter.

The God in the pledge thing to me is extremely petty. Kids think to highly of themselves now days. I was always told a child should be seen and not heard and lived by that when I was growing up. I try and carry this on to my kids today. I'd bust their butts if I got wind of them having any part of this and it doesn't have anything to do with the religious aspect of it.

Members of the student group say they have three main gripes with theway the traditional pledge is read at the start of second-period classes: It takes away from school time; it's ignored or disrespected by mocking teens; and the phrase, "one nation, under God," violates the separation of church and state.

so the pledge takes time out of school?

they leave class to go to a courtyard... thats time out of class

    some students mock it?

what do they think they are doing... mocking it!!

    the word GOD violates?

what they fragile hippie ears.... die burn i dont care just go away
