Dead Pets, Animal Waste Turn Henry House Into Bio-Hazard
HENRY COUNTY, Ga. -- The stench from a Henry County home was so bad neighbors called police to complain.
On Tuesday, when officers went inside the home belonging to James and Elizabeth Smith, they found decomposing pets, animal waste and piles of trash.
The fumes were so bad one officer was overcome and had to be taken to the hospital.
The house on Glen Devon Road was declared a bio-hazard site.
"Pile and piles of trash, dirty dishes, fecal matter all over the floor," said Capt. Jason Bolton of the Henry County Police Department.
Investigators removed at least five dead cats in various stages of decomposition.
They also found a menagerie of live animals running loose inside the house. They confiscated three dogs and 15 cats, including a litter of kittens.
The Smiths were allowed to keep one poodle. Despite the filth inside the house they returned home Tuesday night.
The district attorney will determine if they will face animal cruelty charges.
