I love the water. A bad day on the water is better than a good day at work, unless you're a commercial fisherman.

    Thanks for sharing!

Polite Psycho, the rods were "seeker" rods and the reels are Shimano from 35's to Shimano Tiagra 50's and a few 80's. Marston is a great captain who both times I have been with him, gave us an honest 10hrs of fishing, without travel time[:0] He makes SURE everyone on board catches fish,..even the sick ones if they can stand up. He WORKS for the charter fee,..great guy too. Chuck, his mate, he picked up in NC last fall during the Tuna run down there. He did a superb job as well,...so the $300 tip was well deserved.

Marlin are a Sport Fish here,..they are kept ONLY during a tournament to be weighed in. Any other time, it is catch and release. I wouldn't have kept him anyway,..much too beautiful to keep, and must be kept for future generations to enjoy the feeling of landing a billfish[8]

Now the TUNA and everything else is in the freezers[:p] Tuna is my favorite fish, and my charters are always based on tuna. If the Marlin hits,..then kool[8D] but if we go chunkin for tuna (bait fishing) then that is kool too[8D] when they get in a bait slick and start hitting lines,..it is pure chaos and sore muscles for 2 days[}:)] Worth every penny.

    Nice pics, thanks for sharing.

I'd have been mighty tempted to keep that fishy, but I'm glad to hear it lives to fight another day.

    Seeker makes good tackle.

I ran a small custom made fishing rod shop ("Carabali Rods") while going to school. Must have made literally a few hundred IGFA trolling rods similar to yours. Mostly used Ugly Stick blanks and AFTCO hardware. Fine thread art was my specialty.

Heck, I'm even considering opening the shop once again.

    Will keep y'all posted.

Monday last, started off for me at 3:30AM, (although I was already awake[:p]). Off from the pier at ~5:00AM. 7:00AM brings the slowing of the diesels, and I'm up off the couch and out the cabin door and breathing the salty air from 55miles off of Ocean City, MD. Seas were a good 5-7' by my calculations,..weather said 4-6' at 35miles offshore, so I counted on a good 7' at least. "BONINE DON"T FAIL ME NOW"[8)] I spent a little over a year on the ocean way back,..but an ounce of prevention...... So we start draggin bait and Dave starts adding to the bait behind the boat via the oral dispensor method[xx(]

Anywho, 9:30ish and "FISH ON!!!!!" Capt starts screaming "it's a white, get the *&^$! lines in!!! get the *&^$! lines in" and the melee begins. I grabbed the rod, so I was in the chair[:D][:D][:D][:p][8D]

    [img][/img]justinfightingwhite2.jpg

a good 10-15min later, after a few harrowing moments around the hull and wheels, I get my first White Marlin, and a nice one to top it all off. And even better than that,..THE RELEASE and him swimming off into the deep blue again[8][^]

    [img][/img]seawolfcrewwithwhite2.jpg

and finally, I experience the tradition on the "Sea Wolf" of being thrown in the kiddie pool for the first White Marlin of the year.

You are seeing pictures of the ONLY 1hr period of time where the wind layed out and we had only 3' seas. The reast of the day, until 5:00PM when we headed in, they were 5-7', and good ole Dave made a great chum line until 3:00PM[:0] I felt Bad for him, as I have been down with the seasickness once,..it's your own private hell. But I was proud when I got him up and he reeled in a King Makeral in the 4' range.

All in total,..1 released White Marlin, 2 Blue Fin Tuna ~50-60lbs, 2 King Makeral at ~3-1/2-4', and an Ocean Bluefish at a good 20lbs.

God I love a good day on the ocean,....nothin like it. Thought yall might get a kick from the pics.[;)]

I bet their was WAHOO under them Kings!!

Were you guys using skirts/feathers <lures> or live bait?
    0
  • JustC
they were sitting the squid looking lure "islander I think" with mainly blue tassles with a few green and a few reflective backed down over the head of a rigged balyhoo. Most lines hit had the balyhoo in some way shape or form. The spreader bar never got hit. The spoon on a BIG planer did get hit though.

C[8D][8D]L I have murdered more fish trolling on skirts (Squid) bait lures. I have tried rock fishing here with squid lures, but they are finicky some times, some days it works some days it don't.

Anybody who says they have never been seasick has either not been on the water much or is just flat our lying.

A real fisherman would have pulled in a great white shark and made "White!" mean something.

    $300 is the tip?

No wonder I never get one of those charters out of Denver, too rich for my blood. Hobby guy will take me on the madison for free!

Dale, get this way and we'll see if I might have an extra "spot" on the boat[;)] These business lunches happen from time to time[}:)] All you need to do is hold your cookies and "pull up,..reel down".[:D]

In this area,..you can figure $1700 + tip for the mate per day. The same rules apply,..15-20% for the mate as would you pay on a dinner out. BUT, a mate works 10x as hard as any server I have ever seen, every day. If you got the stomach, these boys will fish with the tips of the outriggers dipping in the water on each roll. That starts around 10-12' seas[xx(]. I PREFER much less,...but hey, ifin you get in the calcutta at $10,000 entry fee, then you fish every day of the tourney that you are allowed. Fish are worth MONEY at that point, so Marlin, Tuna, Sharks, etc that are worthy, come in to be weighed. The Money boat last year took home some $880,000+ for the $10k entrance fee[8D]
