Exploding Tannerite target Recipe
Does anyone know where I can get the recipe to make tannerite? Its legal to have in my state in smaller quantities and I want to make some as exploding targets. I have bought it before from people on a website gunbroker.com but its pretty pricey because of the shipping cost and I am wanting to try and save myself some money. I've searched the net and can't find much information, I am looking for the recipe and where I can find the ingredients, ratios etc etc. Any one help as I can't find much at all.

...As I understand, they used ANFO in OC. A bullet will not detonate it. Even a #8 blasting cap will usually fail. A booster charge of some sort is needed for reliable use of ANFO. Replacing the fuel oil with nitro methane ups the sensitivity somewhat, but a bullet still won't do it. With nitro methane, a #6 cap will usually do it.

OK, could this be something like what is in the old cap pistol caps. A blow will set them off?
I think I remember reading about some exploding targets. I guess that is what it was.
Maybe black powder could be used somehow. It always explodes in the movies! Well heck, cars always explode in the movies too.
As far as ANFO goes, I have used many pounds of that in Texas and never had problem with the caps I bought at the powder magazine in Austin. I have used both electric and fuzed caps, mostly fuze since they are 1/3 price of electric.
Come top think of it, there are these little balls you throw on the ground and they explode. I'll bet a bullet would set them off. Tom0 -

Its not a paste. Its 2 elements in powder form that are mixed together about 95% white powder and 5% gray powder. Mix them thoroughly, put in plastic container and shoot with high power rifle bullet.
I have shot a bunch of these, they are VERY LOUD and will set of your car alarm within 100yds. They will not go off with handgun bullets or .22 rifle. They are very stable when shipped and do NOT require even a hazmat fee.
They also will NOT go off with a fuze or flame. My first case came with a video produced by Daniel Tanner, the inventor, showing all of what I just mentioned.0 -

Amonium Nitrate fertilizer (can be bought at our local Southern States store in 80lb bags), Diesel fuel and Aluminum powder.
The Diesel is used to kill any static electricity for the finer the powers are ground the hotter and faster the reaction accrues.
A few hundred holes.

I get my exploding targets from a place in AZ; they're already mixed and everything. A bb gun will set them off if it goes 750fps or better-watch out for the holes they leave in power poles.....0 -

From the guys that load holes for a living.
They say as little as 0.1-10 millijoules spark can set off certain mixtures. Some mixtures are often even highly sensitive to friction, impact. Thus diesel fuel grounds the mixture they use when it is pumped into the hole. That is not diesel fuels main purpose when used in blasting.
I just do not wish to disclose what it takes nor how much can be placed into a 55 gallon drum and set off with nothing more than 1.2 volt AA battery.0 -

No it wasn't, it wasn't even close, if you mean he used something that they are binary then it is close but they are only related in how they are classified as binary. A ANFO bomb can be detonated by many things and is easy to do so, where ase tannerite can only be detonated one way. Saying they are the same is like saying myself and you are the same in the way we are both humans. Tannerite is legal in all 50 states, it can't be detonated by fuse, fire, or impact, it only detonates from high volicty, which it won't detonate from most handgun rounds. Its not illegal to make by the federal government either. Its also nowhere near as powerful as the fertilizer bomb he used, which is extremely illegal to make.0 -

We used to throw buckets of it in the air above a fire- It makes a HUGE fireball.
