Dang it's HOT
Forecast for Birmingham today is:
101', with heat index from 105-115'.
You walk outside and its like an oven. My tomato and pepper plants are dying. Watering doesn't help, the heat is killing them. My grass is dying, but the weeds are doing okay.
Oh well. Off to change oil in the car and truck. Then bug spray the yard, finish my air-line through the shop, try to come up with extra storage in the shop, and get an item or two ready to ship.
Good thing I bought some extra Gatorade, and my wife has an extra oxygen tank (in case her oxy. generator goes out at night), may need a shot of it.[;)]
If it ain't the heat, its the skeeters. Then it rains and the fleas invade.

Ater going thru a moderate drought here in NW Ohio, we are now in heavy storm conditions and the rain keeps coming. Tomorrow it will be hot again and the area will be a virtual steam bath.
You need to use some semi transparent cloth over your veggies to cut down on the UV rays and help keep some moisture in the ground.
Plastic ground cover for gardens work well too.0 -
91/99 here right now, but didn't hit 100/105 til 4pm yesterday...arghhhhhh 0 -
Forecast to get to 102 with a heat index of 110 today here in Southern Indiana. Been breaking records all week that were set back in the 30's. My daughter had her first day of school today and they decided last night to make it a half day today and tomorrow because of the heat. That's what they get for making the kids go back to school on Aug. 9th. 0 -
bama,
is this hot weather normal for the region or a freak event?
While I was in Auburn for most of the summer I was pleasently surprised that it was MUCH cooler than the Kansas for the same time period, up until now that is.0 -
62 now - high may hit 72. Overcast with light sprinkles.
It's always rainin' in OryGun.

Hi 70's low 80's here, light breeze makes it feel even nicer. 0 -
mid 90s here...and humid...
It's seldom you hear me say this, but "those are some damn poor farmers right there"...
We need rain, but our corn can use it, that corn is toast.

alledan, I thought about trying that, but just didn't do it. Heck, I'm not supposed to eat tomatoes anyway, neither is my wife. But, a homegrown tomato sandwich sure is good.[:D]0 -
96 here in Virginny today. My tomatos and peppers are thriving. You aren't watering during the day, are you? It'll cause them to wilt. 0 -
