Variable Speed Routers (Question)

What are the recommended cutting speeds for the softwoods, hardwoods etc.

Also, what are the other advantages for having the variable speed options?

  The Dewalt I have has a chart of the speeds recommended and what wood it to be cut at what RPM. The electonic speed control will keep the RPM constant regardles of load. I have found the variable speed settings give good, fast and clean cuts.

  What you buy should come with a chart detailing the speeds for a given wood and diameter of the cutter.

  Not sure if they all are but make sure it is a soft start.
