Police officers injured rescuing passengers from burning SUV

COLUMBUS, Ind. (AP) - Three Columbus, Indiana, police officers were injured as they rescued four people from a burning sport utility vehicle following a fatal crash.
Police say a pickup truck driven by 27-year-old Brent J. Steenbarger of Columbus crossed the center line on Indiana 11 in Columbus about 8 p.m. Thursday and struck an SUV head-on.
Steenbarger was killed in the crash.
Passers-by and police officers pulled the four people from the burning SUV.
The officers suffered smoke inhalation and cuts to their hands.
The driver of the SUV, 19-year-old Brian Weddle of Columbus, is in surgery at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. The three passengers suffered cuts and broken bones.
