LEONARD - Federal investigators have joined local and Fannin County law enforcement authorities in probing two early morning explosions which reportedly destroyed a patrol car belonging to the Leonard Police Department.
Leonard Police Chief Rex Clark said no one was hurt when one or more persons placed two explosive devices on the car at around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday. Clark declined to note whether any suspects have been identified or whether a motive had been determined in the case.
"We have nothing to report right now," Clark said, instead referring to a statement issued by the police department.
The patrol vehicle was parked at an officer's residence in the 100 block of North Main Street when the explosions occurred.
"The officer had just got off duty when it happened," Clark said.
The statement indicated the explosions caused damage to the rear trunk area of the vehicle, along with the rear window and the overhead light bar. Fragments from the explosive devices are being examined by investigators with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF).
Clark said he was unsure when the ATF's analysis would be complete.
The statement indicated the investigation is being headed by the Leonard Police Department, the ATF and the Fannin County Sheriff's Office.
Anyone who may have information regarding the incident is being asked to contact the Leonard Police Department at 903-587-2234, or the Fannin County Sheriff's Office at 903-583-2143.

I figure this bozo will be caught too. Kinda hard to get by with something like that in a town of fewer than 2,000 people. 0 -
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess some dumb a** kids decided it would be cool to blow up a cop car.
Hope they weren't planning on doing anything with the rest of their lives, 'cause I can almost guarantee they get caught.0 -
Glad to hear no one was hurt! 0 -
Call in the Texas Rangers. They'll solve it even if they have to frame someone! 0 -

I live in a community of less than 3,000. (You may have heard of it described in the liberal media lately as the most racist community in the South, but that's probably another thread.) Some of the recent incidents were done by perps from other towns, and all were caught very quickly. It is very hard to hide things in a small town, and if the local police cooperate well with other agencies in the region even out-of-towners will be quickly identified.0 -
Don't care if it was kids or terrorist. I hope they catch them and send them to prison.[:(!] 0 -
maybe it was a mean cop and someone wanted to send him a message. not saying what they did is right they should be punished 0 -
