Let's see if the 'day crew' can answer this simple
question:
Who invented and built the first ever motorized land vehicle (that's something
not pulled/pushed by animals or enslaved dwarves)!
No tricks, no smoke or mirrors - just a name and a date will do[8D]

quote:Born at Pittem near Kortrijk, Belgium, he studied in Leuven, Mechelen, Sevilla and Rome. He entered the Society of Jesus on September 2, 1641. In 1658 he accompanied Father Martino Martini to China and reached Macao in 1659. He led the mission in Shanxi until 1660, when he was called to assist, and later replace, Father Adam Schall von Bell in Beijing in his work in astronomy. Beside his work in astronomy, he also experimented with steam. He developed a little steam propelled trolley at around 1670, possibly the first steam powered "car".0 -

Okay, Okay, this is starting to sound more and more like the mini-dramas played out on American Idol.[:D] Therefore, for the sake of civility, I will reluctantly relinquish my cherished hypothetical 1st place winner's prize.[:(]
Therefore, Cubs, I no longer claim any hypothetical rights to your hypothetical next giveaway, which was so generously offered up by that infamous Gunbroker scholar "zipperzap".[:D]0 -
OK ... but if it's one thing I'VE LEARNED AROUND HERE ...

In about A.D. 1232, Wan Hu developed and tested the Chinese rocket sled. 0 -
In 1687, Sir Isaac Newton contributed the steam wagon, which may be viewed as an early automobile. He used a tank of boiling water constantly heated by a fire onboard the wagon and a small nozzle to direct the steam to develop thrust. By adjusting the fire intensity, the valve on the nozzle, and the nozzle direction, he was able to regulate the exhaust velocity and thus the thrust level as well as thrust direction. Although the concept was viable, the required power exceeded that available for reasonable vehicle speeds. Thus, the idea was abandoned. 0
