Cubslover- I assume your in Chicago,Il. I am down by Galesburg,Il. If you guess the number of males and females I will give you pup. Last time it was 3 females, 8 males.

I do not know which (orange or liver) is dominant. If orange is correct then the female may be hetrozygous for orange, meaning she is also carrying liver. Say O represents orange and o represents liver. Then a liver dog will have a genotype of oo while an orange dog can be either Oo or OO. If your orannge dog produced all pups of liver she must be Oo. If that is the case then probability indicates a given litter will be 75% liver and 25% orange, though each pup is actually a seperate genetic event and 100 percent either way is possible. I would be a little surprised if liver is not infact dominant, but I know zip about spaniel genetics.

He Dog- I believe both males parents were liver. The females were each. I also believe orange to be dominant based on there are far more orange Brittanies than liver. A liver female is worth her weight in gold. I don't have a preference on color, just like to have a mix.

Interesting, it is the reverse in many species with the darker color being dominant. Likely you are right, and that is certainly interesting. Theoretically you could, with selective breeding, produce a dog of liver with a yellow underside. That would be interesting. I have seen mice like that, but they have a really sort generation time, you you can breed many generations in a single year.

He Dog- A very rare variation is what is called a Roan, or tri-color. I have never seen one other than pictures.

He Dog- The AKC does not recognize the tri-color and will disqulify it in a AKC compitition.
