What would you do if you found $$$
My friend and I were having a conversation about this earlier this week. Hypothetical situation. What would you do if you were walking along in the woods,or in a park or just anywhere and nobody else is around, (ONLY YOU) and you find a bag filled with money. Lets say $50,000 CASH! No name on the bag, no writing on the bag, No nothing. It's just you and a bag full of cash that you found... Would you turn it over to the authorities? OR would you keep it and never tell a soul?

Myself and three other guys were in a government vehicle in downtown Punxsutawney,Pennsylvania.Iwas the driver going to Macdonalds.When I got out there was a money bag lying on the ground.One of the guys jumped out of the back seat and grabbed the bag,throwing it into the back seat.I told him not to get the idea that he was keeping it.He refused th hand it over to me until I pulled into the City Police Department.They took my name and address and phone number.Three days later I got a phone call from a local grocery store,the gentleman told me to come to his store because he wanted to give me a reward for turning it in.Irefused saying the money bag belonged to him not me.I di not need a reward for giving something back to the writeful owner.It seems that he went to the bank,stoping at Macdonalds first,And lost the money bag in the parking lot.$6500 0 -

Seriously. I see nothing but trouble in that bag because money does not just fall out of the sky, it belongs to someone and that someone most likely dumped it out in the woods for a reason: Drug money, counterfit, ransome money...Who knows. I'd give it to the cops and let them sort it out. Maybe if it was lost then the owner would give me a reward or maybe if it is never claimed I'll get to keep it. Either way I still come out ahead since I don't have to find a crooked banker to launder it (although finding a crooked banker would take about 10 minutes, he'd likely take about 30% for his cut) or putting it into a suitcase and taking it to an off shore bank.0 -

Found a bank deposit bag with cash and checks in it one time. Took it back to the business name on the deposit slip. They were very thankful and gave me a gift certificate for $50. That was in 1977, and $50 was a nice reward. 0 -

Any paper money in circulation will test positive for illegal drugs so these days unclaimed $ will almost always be kept by authorities. The dirty little secret is that many law enforcement depts. love to find evidence of illegal substances just so any property involved can be seized, including cash. It is then awarded to that dept. after court actions are completed. Helps the budget don't you know. 0 -

if i have $500. or 50k on me i watch it and all around me like i was a target. there is a greater chance someone will (try) to take it before i just loose it. again someone that looses that kind of cash has too much of it and takes it for granted, forgot how hard it is to work for it.i would watch the paper for an add maybe a little old lady lost it after selling her house that would be differient .but i would never turn it over to the police for a remote chance i might get it for myself. as for a drug dealer T/S. When people go to Walt Disney World they loose there heads. We find money, cameras, glasses, clothing, backpacks and everything else, everyday. We turn it into property control and if it has a name in it they will return it to the owners. If it is a phone, they will try to call the owner as soon as we find it and return it. I have found hundreds of dollars and turned it back in. These people are on Vacations from around the world and it may be the only money they have so why ruin there vacation or cut it short for a few lousy bucks. 0 -
I would put several ads in the paper to see if the rightful owner would come forward, then notify the police. I might even start a door-to-door campaign to get the money back into the rightful owners hands. If it did turn out to be a drug dealer's stash, I'd spend the money and my time trying to rehabilitate them to be a happy, productive member of society.
If no one claimed it I'd give most of it to the church for all the good work they do and then donate the rest to other local charities hopefully some that help the homeless, especially the ones that limp.
And I'd also match the fund with my own money so the church would have more money to spread god's word around.0 -

to clarify things if there was a business name on it or someones name i would turn it in but 50,000 in cash is drug money and you would not be turning it into the police you would be giving it to them. 0 -
