YES...low life scumbags...bought a 1/4k beautiful hi quality diamond in engagement ring....wife left it a same place couple of years later to be cleaned.....i noticed about a year later that the stone was junk ... around the girdle the bottom facet edges were fuzzy...heard other stories about this dealer over the years & finally figured out why he was wealthy...also there is NO NO NO reason to remove a stone for cleaning..you can clean jewelry just as well as them by using a $20 sonic cleaner or soft toothbrush with non abrasive paste...the (outside source comment means turning it around & blaming customer..ba$$turds

Never leave a good, high quality diamond with a jeweler unless you have had it professionally appraised. And, if you do, tell the jeweler that you have the appraisal paperwork on it. Also, take it back to the same appraiser to ensure you get "your" stone back and not a lesser quality one.

Swapping stones has been going on forever according to an engineer friend whose family owned a stall in the NY Diamond exchange.
Never have the ring out of sight while cleaning and don't leave it with a jeweler.
Unknown to me, my wife broke a prong off her engagement ring and left
it with a trusted jeweler to be repaired. I'm sure the stone was swapped because of a subsequent evaluation.
What's important is that she thinks it's the original.

Diamonds and watch movements from expensive watches, like Rolex, can be swapped. You really got to know and trust the jeweler.

Have diamond rings cleaned at the dental office. No swap is going to take place there.

My wife used to be a dental assistant. They cleaned rings all the time.

Heard tell of a mechanic shop one time where they would take your premium tires off and replace them with cheapies.

Their is no reason to leave a ring or what ever at a jeweler over night, stay with you stones and watch, it does not take long to re size or clean a ring or what ever.

Chuck is right! A good jeweler can resize a ring in less then 20 minutes while you watch. And "most" jewelers are not gemologists.
Always take your jewelry to large established business with GIA credentials.
