Stupid Hypothetical Question of the Day
Suppose through gene therapy America's youth could change there skin color as simple as it is to dye hair. What skin color would America's youth decide to be popular and trendy. I say the majority would chose to be black. Male and females would find it cool to be black.
I realize it is hypothetical, but I suspect the America's youth would think it to be way cool. No one would care to be as pale as a Swede. A nice deep tan would be too easy to do. Maybe it would be out of rebellion, but I suspect it would be popular.
Next, there would be a new generation of Caucasian youths with a new dark skin tone calling each other niggar and making a hip mockery of the word. The term would no longer be a derogatory description. It would only be offensive to those formerly "oppressed" people feel they have lost a source of oppression.
Which would make me wonder what the "black community leadership" would say. Would the Jesse Jackson's and Al Sharpton's cry racism, when in effect, neutralizing skin tone would end racism? Would they say "No fair. That's our skin color. You can't use it. We've had to suffer because of this skin and now you are stealling it just like our music, clothes and ..."
Yes, this is a stupid question, but if it happened, it would show just how irrelevant skin color is. Many would say "My kid would never do such a thing." But, think about today's suburbanized youth's. I suspect they would do it in a minute if given the opportunity.

Old, out of date, irrelevant book "Black Like Me".
A white guy dyes his skin to look black and then relates his experiences as a black guy.
Was written in the '50s, I'm pretty sure.

Yeah, and you probably wear your jeans around your waist and not any lower.0 -
WHy not purple?....Nice color, almost rich looking, nothing bad that I know of is linked to purple...[}:)] 0 -
they said the purple teletubbie on TV was a symbol of the gay pride movement. (Not to rain on your parade) 0 -

It was made into a movie, starring James Whitmore. He looked funny, like a white guy with black skin coloring on.
Harvard Lampoon did a spoof on that in the seventies, names "Stacked Like Me." A guy put on a bra with water balloons in it, wore a dress and a wig and makeup.0 -
Skin tone is already secondary as far as many of the black leaders like Al Sharpton are concerned. For example Barak Obama has suprisingly little advantage in the black community over other Democratic candidates, because he is not "black" enough, meaning he is not descended from slaves and comes from an affluent and educated background. He doesn't have the "authenticity" of Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson, even if he is, or because he is, a more or less mainstream political figure. 0 -
How Swede it is. 0 -
isn't going to matter in a few thousand years, racism will end because there will be one race combined, then we will have to find something else to hate each other for 0 -

Was this based on a true event. I seem to remember a reporter who did darken his skin and then lived among the blacks in New Orleans for a period of about six months or so.0 -
Yep - true, but long ago and far away...like most of my life.

Guess what color I would elect? 0 -
I'm tan. What's wrong with tan? White wimmin dig tan.
I'm a US citizen.
Mind you; I served our great country with great honor. I'm an honorably discharged US Navy veteran. My father, brother, and son in-law are also veterans. That makes me true blue.
My undergraduate and post graduate degrees are from American colleges.
I'm a Christian, a hard working Republican, an anti abortionist, and a pro gun CCW permit holder.
My skin is tan and my accent is West Indian.

I think I could master the yaeruh, given practice, but the scuff heel, raised pocket, loose armed gait with the head toss is a humdinger for sure. 0 -

I Just asked my son what color he would dye his skin if he could.
He said Blue or something wicked like flames on his legs.
I asked him what about Black and he said eww heck no.
He is 110 -
I'd go to more of a southern European tone. Curse this pale, northern European skin of mine. (I burn easily) 0 -
What color? Mossy Oak, or basic woodland pattern camo, maybe. Altho with some of the idiots that deer hunt around here, international orange might be a good idea. Got anything in a nice tartan? Hunting Campbell? (Original gang colors, ya know)[:)] 0 -

If things continue as they are it will be substantially less than even one thousand years.0 -
the nice golden brown czech-tone farmer's tan I got right now can't be beat. wouldn't care for any other color.
I have got actually dark as an ..african.. before. held my arm up right next to a lighter-skinned one, and it was just as dark. and it looked better on me. ha ha.0 -
I'd pick invisible[:p] 0 -
Skyblue pink would be my first choice ... invisible my second.[:D] 0 -
Hell no...I'd be white like I am now! 0 -
Even if I had black/brown skin, I couldn't be more white if someone dumped a 55 gallon drum of white paint on me.
