Dutch Auction Question

I have never did a dutch auction and have never really saw the point.
I would like to hear the the pros and cons so I can see it from another angle. The angle I see it from is not real clear as to the benifits.

    I'm a little confused here.

    I am running a dutch auction for 8 magazines all alike

    I see the bidders are putting in the number they want.

    So if the auction ends and the high bidder takes 2 mags....

    and the guy below him wanted 3 mags, and the next guy is 3 mags....

    Do they all sell for the last high bid?

    You might get to deal with shipping to several locations for the lowest winning bid.

    They are awesome for a couple of reasons:

    1. Most people are idiots who can't understand them, even though they are so simple. These are the same idiots who don't understand proxy bidding, so you can snipe them (on ebay). Thats great as a buyer.

    2. As a seller, they are great because you can sell a BUNCH of things at once, and people can buy as many as they'd like. Often, people want more than what is listed, but don't bother to email you.

    I think dutch auctions mostly help the seller, because they can list several of the same in quick order vs. setting up multiple one item auctions. As a buyer they only really matter if you want to buy several of something at one time, if you only want one then just bid as usual and enter your number wanted as one [^].

    It is really simple. They are not actually auctions, they are like buying off the shelf, when there are a dozen of the same item on display.

    Except on a shelf you pay whatever the price is, each item same price for each person. In dutch auction the one who will pay the most gets first pick of the number of items he wants (and if this were a real face to face auction most likely which ones they want). The next highest bidder gets the next chance to pick, then the next lower and so on until all the items are gone.
