For all you naysayers against the Red Cross

Most the time the general public doesn't understand an organization and it doesn't go their way they can bash... Here is a little knowledge on why the Red Cross was not in New Orleans immediately.

    Can you please link me to their explanation for why their executives need to be paids hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, and why in WWII they charged soldiers and sailors for supposedly "free" donuts, coffee, and blankets? And, why do they charge money for blood that is donated to them for free?

    Do you imagine any organization operationg free of charge? Someone has to be in charge and be paid...I cannot for the life of me but wonder why anyone would bash and put down any organization to help mankind but yet sit back and complain about it. Why not volunteer to an organization and help? Usually the complainers will be the first in line for help on a disaster. Bitch and moan why they didn't get a cot and have to sleep on the floor out of the weather. I tell you , there are still people who care and I am one of them. All the bashing in the world is not going to keep me from doing service work. I enjoy it. Now read the link.

    Just a couple of years ago there was another Red Cross scandal.
    They need to begin developing some good works. Their history suks.

    I don't blame their zero presence in NOLA during and immediately after Katrina on them. I'm assuming they're dancing around it on their web page so as not to point fingers, but I remember hearing their reps explain it on the news and info I saw in the city's published hurricane response plan backed them up.

    It had long been determined that there wasn't a safe location for a large shelter anywhere within the city. The plan called for all citizens to be evacuated and relief organizations were to set up at staging areas outside the city. The Superdome was designated as a "shelter of last resort", but their plan specified that it was suitable only for use by a skeleton crew of essential personnel who would be needed in the city during the aftermath. This is the reason there wasn't a suitable amount of prepositioned supplies located there.

    The Red Cross was down there, but they and other relief personnel were waiting where the response plan said the city would be relocating it's citizens to.
