The mormon temple is probably the first thing you should see. Its supposed to be a very impressive building.

Im from ogden its north of slc. I don't really know the hotels and such in that area. Temple square is really neat even if your not a mormon. we have a cabelas just about 15 mins south of the expo center. or you could go up to park city and see all the olympics stuff. but the best part of utah for me is the mountian in northern utah.[:D] beware of all the road construction!

Hated the place personally. But make your own decision on that one. Salt flats some people seem to like. Nothing quite like the cache valley or the Unita mountains.

trowe: Check this link out and take it from there, http://www.utah.com/saltlake/

Here's another if you like libraries:

This one is guaranteed to be extra special in terms of genealogical records. It's dubbed the Family History Library. Just take a moment to read about some of what it offers...it is truly amazing. If you want to learn about your family, this is truly the place to be, and a greater bunch of people will not be found anywhere.

Salt Lake is also the home to a new State Capital building that makes for a good pic or two. They may have a market going on in their city park on Saturday or Sunday which will make for an enjoyable event. There are lots of local antique shops if you like to browse through all sorts of old items. There is a pawn shop named Sells Antiques which usually has a good gun collection when its not on the road at the big shows. Be sure to take your camera.

The roads are very wide and clean with little traffic as larger cities go, but beware the drivers, especially on the Interstate! Enjoy.

Do the Temple Square trip. After all, it is the most visited site in Utah. Park City - walk up and down Main Street. Drive the Alpine loop. Starts in American Fork Canyon and come out Provo Canyon - hopefully the colors will be peaking. Mt. Nebo scenic drive a little farther south - bring your spotting scope and check out the mountain goats. If you go, there is a good chance you can stop and hear the elk bugling. Cabela's in Lehi and the dinosaur museum is there too. Go to Snowbird and ride the tram to the top of the Hidden Peak. Antelope Island to see the bison and maybe some trophy mule deer.

I used to truck thru SLC alot. Never had time to stick around and see much. But have always been curious, what is that big building right by the lake, not far west out of town? Looks kinda like a gymnasium.

You being from Ogden would know of some of my ansestors!

Lorrin Farr and James Brown(for those thinking the singer you are wrong[;)][:D]) are both great(x however many greats there are in there) grandfathers of mine.

I am also related to the owners of the Farr Better IceCream company!

I have alot of distant relatives in that area!

I may have some distant relatives out there too. My family has an interesting connection to Mormon history.
According to family lore, my GG-Grandfather (Possibly GGG) was a member of "The Mob" that killed Josepth Smith at Carthage Il. Thus instigating the Mormon exodus west to Utah.
However, 2 of his daughters married Mormons and went west w/them. One of the daughters reportedly died on the trail and is buried at The Winter Quarters in Omaha Ne.
The other was reportedly married to a high ranking Mormon (John Taylor I beileve) and survived the trip to Utah.
At that point our family history loses contact w/her. But if she had any offspring, I'm related.

    Git r done,

Is that the same Farr's Ice cream that used to have the big store over on about 5th west (just west of the Temple)? I was just trying to remember the name of that place last week.

If so, Trowe, you gotta hit that place! It's got to be the biggest ice cream shop on Earth! If you're an ice cream fan, this place is Mecca.
Yes sir that is the same company!

My mom's maiden name is Farr.

Farr also happens to be a very big name in Utah and in the Mormon church.

Farr Ice Cream is some of the best you can get!

Thanks. I always wondered why such large fancy looking place appeared to be abandoned. I seem to recall some grafitti covered ruins near there. Are they the remains of the 1st Saltair.

I don't think he implying anything. Just pointing out an event that he probably assumed that you, as member of a forum on a gun related website, might be interestd in.
As for myself. During my many travels thru Utah, I always found the breath-taking natural beauty of the state of interest enough that it never occured to me to seek entertainment elsewhere.
