Those are some great shots.
Just was giving a guy on another board some information on free hog hunts in Texas..
If we do not get some cooler weather soon. Our local deer population will be nearly cut in half due to a bug biting them near water holes and killing them in 8 to 10 after they get bit.0 -

EHD is transmitted by various species of Culicoides midges ("no-see-ums").
The virus enters the blood of hosts from the midge. In some species, viral replication may occur in the walls of blood vessels.
Blood vessels are damaged leading to numerous small and large hemorrhages - hence, the hemorrhagic nature of this disease. .
More information can be found at the WV DNR link below.

They say it's due to all of the hot dry weather we have had this year. The effects have really bad on our local herds. I know of 35 deer that have been found dead within the past three weeks within a 10 mile radius of my house. That is 35 that I know of. Hard to tell how many that has not been found and counted.0 -
Of course nothing is 100% totally free.

But it is cheaper than a full pledged hunt.0 -

Wish that we had a decent hog population. The DNR introduced them many years ago into the state. The poachers took such a heavy toll on them that you no longer need a permit to hunt them. The last count I remember they were only nine killed the entire season.
Anymore if I want a Feral Hog to eat I just go pay a "ranch" in Ohio and kill one. For the price you get the hog, cut, vacuum packed and frozen for around $350.00. I call it a caged hunt. But it puts good eating in the freezer much cheaper than going to the store.0
