I'm going next week for my first time ever. I'm very excited. Taking my Remington 700 in .270. Glad I'm going with a friend who's experienced b/c I have no idea what I'm doing. [8D]

Gun season starts tomorrow at daylight.
Clothes all packed, venison chili out of the freezer and thawing,
    lifetime license in my pocket.
Should I take the .270, or the .30-30, or the .300 Savage, or the .30-06??? I'll take two.
The 2000 acre lease and camp is only 20 miles away. I'm in heaven.

Good luck. [:)][:)] Always take at least two rifles. Never know what will happen. Don't know where you are, but the .270 is almost the perfect choice. I'd take the .300 Savage as a backup. What is that? The old Model 99E? Good gun and caliber anyway. [:)][:)]
    Wish I was going....[}:)][;)]

I just came back in from the morning hunt. 73 degrees and blowing like a *##%?+%&. I'm not going back out today.

Hope you have better weather and luck than me!

    NICE!

    I have grandpa's old 300 sav mod 99
I haven't ever shot anything with it,
I would love to bag a big buck with it one day.

    You guys are lucky.

Our gun season does not start until around the 19th of November. Everything is jammed together for gun hunters. Bucks Only, Black Powder, Special Doe all take place from the Monday before thanks giving until Dec 31. That makes for a rough fun time when you have two kids that likes to hunt also.

Heading out for our one day Fall turkey hunt when school lets out this afternoon with the two oldest DD's. They can kill either Gobbler or hen so it should be fun for them. And we can spent most of Sunday Trout fishing.

Just remember, SAFTEY FIRST, and have fun. Every thing else will come in due time.

    LesWVa,
We sure are lucky here in Georgia. The season goes from Oct. 20 straight thru till Jan 1, including Sundays. There's more - the season limits are 10 does and 2 bucks. Second buck must have 4 on 1 side. Even better - I qualify for a free hunting & fishing license (over 65).
Like I said, "I'm in Heaven".[:)][:)]

We must purchase an extra buck stamp to be able to kill two during Bucks only season which only last two weeks. Same for Bow season and then apply for a Doe permit. Black Powder season is kind of odd. One if you have filled your Bucks only or Archery tags. But Two if you have not with an Black powder extras tag.

We can legally take seven a year all totaled.

You would be surprised at the people who flock here from out of state to hunt during Bucks only season. 90% of them are from states that start there season in Oct. The other ten are from Ohio who come here just so that they can hunt with something other than a pistol or shotgun.
