Got the new Shelby Mustang
Sorry for the late post but Mrsbigt and I just returned from cruising around the beautiful SC "Lowcountry" in a new convertible Shelby Mustang. Top down, perfect 70 degree weather, full moon, nice seafood dinner at the beach, etc. She rented the car for my birthday. Very, very cool.
This is the new 2007 Shelby Mustang GT-H from Hertz rental. According to Hertz this car cost $92,000. There are only 500 of them. Horsepower is somewhere above 500. It is fast, rides well, handles well, has good brakes and turned heads everywhere we went. Will post more tomorrow...

Nice ride. Who's got the best seafood down there now? 0 -
How much was it to rent per day? 0 -
Lucky SOB! Did Hertz tell you they measure tread depth before rental and after? If it exceeds .187 inch they bill you $300 for excessive tire wear (burnouts) 0 -

Nice B-day gift........I know I'd burn the tires off the thing, who cares if they're $300 bucks to replace HAVE FUN, hopefully you won't need that rollbar[:)]0 -
Very nice. I couldn't do that though. I wouldn't be able to give it back! [:(] 0 -
My son has a MAJOR thing for Mustangs. He is only 10 and can tell you exactly what he wants when he can drive. He will be VERY impressed. I keep waiting on someone I know to get a cool Mustang so I can bribe them into taking him for a ride. I don't think he is aware that you can rent them......and I am thankful for that. I can just hear the begging now! 0 -
I remember a hot lap around Marlboro raceway WAAAY back when, in the original Shelby GT-H, when it was new!!!
Hertz learned about the tire wear thing with those - people would rent them and go racing every weekend.0 -
Check out what is coming from Ford.. I drove a Shelby King of the Road years ago.. it was awesome.
[edit] 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR
2008 Shelby GT500KR at the New York International Auto ShowThe 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR, revealed at the 2007 New York International Auto Show, is scheduled for release in the spring of 2008, is powered by a (estimated) 540 horsepower 5.4-liter supercharged V-8 variation with a Ford Racing Power Upgrade Pack. Production will be limited to 1,000 units. The Shelby GT500KR styling features include a carbon composite hood with scoops and hood pins, a lowered front air dam, and 14-inch Brembo front brakes with functional cooling ducts. The 2008 GT500KR draws on styling features from the classic 1968 "King of the Road" GT500KR model, and includes 40th anniversary badging, racing stripes, and Carroll Shelby signature embroidered seats. The GT500KR's price is estimated to be around the $52,000 range. The GT500KR will be the second fastest production Mustang ever built after the Saleen S281 extreme which boasts 550h bhp. However, Shelby released that there will be a Super Snake option in 2008(see super snake)
Specifications
Front Engine, RWD, 4 pass, 2 door coupe
5.4L/540 hp/510 lb.ft. supercharged DOHC 32 valve V8 Engine
6 Speed Manual Transmission
3800 lb. curb weight
107.1 in. wheelbase
188 x 73.9 x 54.5 in. [citation needed]
[edit] Super Snake
Starting in 2008, previous 2007 Shelby GT500 Mustangs could be sent to Carroll Shelby's Special Performance Plant in Las Vegas to be rebuilt into a Super Snake, which resembles the 2008 GT500KR, for an additional cost of $27,995. The Super Snake will offer a 600 hp version with warranty or a 750 hp version without warranty and a 0-60 time of under 4 seconds. The Super Snake is inspired by the 1967 GT500 Super Snake, a car made by Carroll Shelby for Goodyear Tires.[citation needed]0 -
We want pics of the burn outs, OK? 0 -
SWEET! 0 -
I especially like the Gold over Black paint. this was how the hertz 'rent a racers' were painted in the 60's. 0 -
Neat car, but I can't see $92G in it. For $92G I could buy a new 'Vette and a new truck. 0 -

Don't forget to burn off the tires and leap some curbs--heck, drive off a bridge since you can bail out easy--'cause it's the GB car renter thing to do, right? [V][:p] 0 -
Value on the Shelby conversions is definitely going to go up dramatically at some point in the not too distant future. We have folks going for these hand over fist over the Shelby GT 500's produced at the Ford factory. In fact, I am right now about 10 feet from a beautiful white 2008 Shelby coupe with the silver stripes.......selling for about $55,000. Any takers? [;)] 0 -
Bet MrsBigT got some stares riding around with her top down, eh?[:p] Or maybe you meant the car..... 0 -
No doubt the Hertz will be worth alot in 25 yrs. I will be 78 in 25 yrs.. Any low production performance vehicle should pull some good money if we still have gas..[:0] Here is one surely to be worth a few dollars in the future. These are going a few thousand over list right now IF you can find one for sale. 300 in the US and just a little over 80k will get you in one.

i work for a rental car company, and a little advicefor all who rent cars. next time you want to rent one, always reserve the smallest cheapest car and upgrade to the mustang(or any car you want) and you will save alot more money. also, never belive the agent at the counter when they say "thats the cheapest price on a upgrade i can do" because they make there own price when it comes to upgrades. Just a little work of advice[:D] 0 -

I don't think that car will be worth a nickel in 20 years.
What would you use for fuel in it? There ain't going to be any gas.0
