CLEVELAND (AP) -- Police say a 16-year-old Cleveland boy accidentally shot himself in the head last night and died. Police say the shooting happened about 9:30 last night while the boy was with his girlfriend inside a home on Cleveland's west side.
Lieutenant Thomas Stacho says the initial investigation indicates the boy wanted to prove to his girlfriend that the safety was on and the gun wouldn't fire.
Police believe the boy put the gun to his head and pulled the trigger. It fired, and the shot killed him instantly.

I know full well by the time I was 16, I was more than aware of the safety aspects. I also know full well that if I made a mistake, my dad would correct me. If I made a STUPID mistake, such as that, he would have blistered my a$$ to the point it would still hurt, and I'm 46 now. Even at 46, and with my dad at 77, if I did something that foolish (without pulling the trigger), that even though he MIGHT not be able to beat my a$$, he would hit me with a tree limb.
I think that's a substantial difference in generations. My dad would beat my a$$ when I deserved it, and I still respect him to this day.0 -

2) How did a 16yo get ammo?
3) Where were the parents?
4) What the hell they were doing not teaching the kid about firearms if they had a gun in the house??
5) If there were no firearms in the house see question 1)
I really do feel bad for the boy. It is easy for you guys to say "Darwin", etc. However, at 16 we all did stupid and dangerous thigns and stunts. Responcibility is on his parents.
My grandfather had 3 guns: an "award" TT-33, a Double barrel side by side shotgun and Izh bolt action hunting rifle (version of Mosin).
It never came to my mind to play with them while loaded. It never came to my mind to load them. My grandfather told me the consequences, he told me the responcibility and he told me that he will whip the skin of my back if he finds out I have been playing with his guns.0 -

No doubt SOME of it is but, THE BOY pulled the trigger. Let's put the blame where it lays. My kids are 7 and 8. THEY know not to "play" with guns, let alone put one to their heads.0 -

...Generation difference I suspose to some degree. I doubt the kid ever had any gun safety training; which is a shame.
I taught my daughter as I was taught, for HER safety as well as others; busy teaching the oldest gran-son now.

i think i make a valid point. gun safety is very important. all safety is very important. safety is most often taught by parents. when a child doesnt have both parents teaching them proper safety then bad things happen. just think how disadvantaged black youths are when over 70% of them grow up without a father. no wonder so many end up poorly 0 -

Try this on for size: Eighty percent of all Americans that are incarcerated are black.
There are many more facts that are distasteful to most of us, but distaste does not equate with warping facts.

Oh, guys. Give it a break. Who cares if he was black, white or polkadot? I have seen plenty of dumb white people, in fact I seen a LOT of them. I have seen plenty of dumb black folks. I have seen plenty of smart white folks, I have seen plenty of smart black folks.
When it comes to streetsmarts, as a matter of fact, I would think that a black guy would be better of in that dept.
Yeah, 70% of blacks don;t know who their dad is. Half of whites know who he is but he ain't around since mommy has the custody, and our courts are biased against fathers. In some families a dad is never around, in others he is, but it would be better if he wasn't.
It still comes down to the SOCIETY. The movies and music and games glorifying "gangstah' lifestyle". Crap sells, since it appeals to the lowest common denominator, it makes money, and corporations do not care about the harmfull impact it creates, after all, their main responcibility is profit, not the effect they have on society.
