Any "Ported Barrels" work as well as advertised?

Do "Ported" barrels really lessen recoil and muzzle flip up to 40% as they advertise?

    I put them on two rifles and tamed those beasts. 7.82 Lazzeroni Patriot in a very light rifle and 338 RUM also in light rifle. I am not real recoil sensitve but bench work with those two was tough before. Have shot some stout handgun cal's that had them and could tell big change.

    Compensated barrel and porting certainly help tame this beast.

    Not sure why anyone would want to port a .40S&W but I bet they work.

    Smitty-That is a sweat port job on the .500!!

    I have had 2 Mag-Na-Ported 44 Magnums and 2 Mag-Na-Ported .357 Magnums. The porting reduced felt recoil a LOT, but the muzzle flash and report were incredible.

    Sold them off because of that - especially the noise.

    By the way, all but one of the .44s were short barreled.

    Its only worth doing to a very big calibur gun...the standard carry guns aren't usually liked if they are ported. That flash in your face is not fun....plus the way it magnifies the sound it almost makes you flinch because of the noise.

    Had my Ruger M77 Mag-na-Ported. Worked very well. Now it just kicks straight back instead of climbing up in your face.

    The 4" Smith .50 is the only one I've bought ported - can't imagine

    I have a quick discharge muzzle brake installed on my .300WM like below ...

    Felt recoil in comparable to a .243.

    I also have a 4" 44mag ported and works as advertised. As LF noted, it magnifies the gun blast and noise. With proper safety equipment and adrenalin pumping, you'll hardly notice it's there and you can enjoy shooting it. [}:)]

    I find that my Mossberg 835 has less punch than my Winchester 1300... the 835 has a ported barrel, the Winny doesn't.

    Are you guys suggesting those "Quick Discharge Brakes" for semi-autos?
    THAT's what I'm wanting anything for....have no rifles or revolvers.

    How would I get a shop to turn 3/4' of the barrel end for installation?

    you dont want the flash and noise on a carry gun. Or At least most people dont[:D]

    I have a Sig220 - that is .45, if you didn't know - it has the EDM MagnaPort cuts through the slide and the barrel...it helps keep the muzzle down, but on a Semi-Auto, it makes it a REALLY Dirty Birdy, fouling the works MUCH faster than without - much more cleaning, much more often is required. It gets grime on my hats, on the optics, on the walls of the shooting stall, on my face, etc. And as noted above, it will blind you in night use. Unless the recoil of your gun is truly objectionable, I wouldn't do it.
