Scope suggestions for an AR-15

I have had a Rock River Arms .223 on order for about three months and it is (finally) supposed to ship in the next week or so. It is an A4 with a 20" barrel and I plan on putting a scope on it. What does GB think would be a good scope for this rifle? I will use this mostly at the range in the 100-200 yd distance. Maybe longer once in a while but mostly in that range.

What about a lighted reticle?

I like the Leupold but some of those get pricey pretty quick. Any suggestions are appreciated

    I have a leupold 4.5x14-40..var x 111, on one of mine it is a good all around scope I have never used it past 350yds but I know its capable if I am..I use mine for groundhogs and paper and am very satisfied with it buy a good bi-pod for your ar, I suggest a harris..Look on gb auction side under scopes..leupolds have a lifetime warranty..Loko[:D]

    Thanks, I like the varmint hunters reticle on that model. Although I haven't done it, I would like to hunt some long distance rodents.

    A bi-pod is on the list also.

    Hey Maalox,.......sorry to hear about your wait.
    I was told 8 to 12 weeks on mine also, but it showed up in just over 4!
    I am sure it will be made up with the wait for the XD though!

    I'm a Trijicon man myself, I like to make it easy and just pick from their line of products, so I don't know about much else. but, if you're just going to the range, you can do with less (cheaper). but, then you mentioned groundhogs, a lighted reticle and a bipod... so, ok, get a trijicon accupoint.

    they have a few choices. since you're usually on the range but occasionally want to do some long range shooting, and light gathering is important to you, I'd go with the 2.5-10X, 56mm (30mm tube) the red dot might not be what you want. crosshairs are better for slow/stationary targets and groundhogs but that's not offered, this is a real hunting scope.

    an ACOG does have crosshairs, but it's fixed at 4X (larger targets when long range), not really suited for groundhogs and costs more.

    I think a general rule of thumb could be, if you're going to use a bipod, you want crosshairs.

    I don't know. for what you're doing you probably would find something better by a different mfr.

    I have been told it was due to the chrome lined barrel on the 20". Also the YHM flip up front site/gas block combination. Evidently these two items were holding up production. A week ago, the dealer was told by RRA that mine was next in line once they received their next shipment of chrome lined barrels.

    I just put a Trijicon Tripower on my RRA.Thats just what I need for out to 200yrds

    I put a Nikon ProStaff 3-9x40 on my flattop and it works just fine for me. It's all in what you'll use it for. Truck gun? Range queen? All around shooter? and then there's the price range. For the money, I am pretty satisfied with the Nikon, and won't be worried to let it ride in the truck during hunting season.
