need a new barrel
I have purchased and sold a lot of guns but I have always wanted to build a great shooter. What I want to do is take my old model 70 in 30-06,have someone install a really good barrel,and install one of the new Bell & carlson tactical stocks. The rifle al;ready has Leupold 1 piece base and x-high rings with a Redfield ultimate illuminator scope. Who is a reliable smitty who would do good work at a fair price?[:p][?]

Try googling words/phrases like, "Gunsmithing", "Custom guns", etc
Also use the e-yellow pages and restrict the search to your area +/_ 50 miles or however far you want[:)]0 -
I would recommend a Hart barrel. They will do the rebarrel work and do an excellent job of blueing so that everything looks good.
I had the pleasure of touring their shop while I lived in Pittsburgh. Really nice people.0 -
Thanks,I was just wandering if there were members who could reccomend someone that they knew was trustworthy. The old model 70 isn't worth a lot of money,but I am still picky about it being out of my sight.[^]Ihave read a lot of the articles here and many of the members are very savvy on many aspects of firearms.Since I have never done this I was hoping to be led in a semi-safe direction.[;)] 0 -

E.R. Shaw is another good one.

Post over to Experts;
Ask Nononsense. He is about as good as it gets, knowledgewise.0 -
You have some decisions to make...such as the amount of money you wish to spend.
Shy away from Shaw, and the lower end barrels..unless you want a factory reproduction.
Good barrels cost money..around 250-300 bucks...and a REAL 'Smith..versus the 'I cudnt spell gnsmth last weak...will charge aanother couple hundred to chamber that tube...and some more yet to accurize the action0 -
Al Story of Story Gun and Machine does outstanding work. His number is 505-535-2923. 0 -
