Opinion From LEO's,...............
I have always been curious about how many of you guys feel about this.
Today, I pulled into a gas/convenience store, and right in front of me was a Lake County Sheriff's cruiser, which is south of here.
I started pumping gas, and watched two females exit the vehicle.
The driver was a black female of about forty years old, and weight estimate,..........250, about 5'4".
The rider was a white female of about 25, and had to weigh close to 300 pounds, and about the same height. She was so fat that she "waddled",......seriously!
Both were in uniform, and armed.
I have always wondered what folks in the job, think about females as "beat cops", number one, but then secondly, what is the deal with the obese people that are in that position?
I think that some of the short, petite female officers, encourage a young male "perp", to fight, and create a situation where one may not have arisen otherwise. The attitude is, "this little woman ain't taking me down", or at least that is what I believe.
The other question is how in God's name, can officers that fat, be expected to move "fluidly", much less participate in a foot chase.
Just curious about personal feelings.[;)]

Th rules for hiring are different everwhere 0 -
regardless of gender presence and fitness and how one carries themselves are paramount. You would think those on patrol especially would keep in shape. I would like to think the fellow officer responding would be able to drag me out if need be. Sadly i dont think most could. I strive hard to train and keep my shape and appearence up. I also believe that any night i go out someone might try to take me out. I imagine if you dont plan on really doing anything at work that is not as much as an issue. As far as the woman side of the question obviously woman in general are smaller than men but there guys who are 5'3 130 lbs. For women i think it really comes down to how you carry yourself. I greatly respect those you are good at it because i think that they have to work harder then males at it. As far as those large sloppy looking people it reflet poorly on LE in general. On a positve note i would like to think health attitudes for police are changing but hiring requirement cerntanly arent more stringent. 0 -
If blow offends you dont look at it 0 -
Carrie,..........it doesn't offend me, but there are posting rules here, and offensive language is one of them. I just didn't want my thread wiped out because of YOUR reply! 0 -
Another reason I have always wondered about feelings, is from my brief "career" in the fire department.
I hit just at the right time for "dual purpose", i.e. EMT, which I obtained no problem, but is why I left. Wanted to fight fires, not spend 90% of my time on "coders", or minor accidents.
I went through my fire training with one female, and a lot of LEO guys.
I saw how they reduced the standards for the females, and also while I had the second highest score on my testing, and physical certs,......I had to wait to be taken on, while the female in my group, was hired almost immediately, along with the usual minorities. She was about 5' 2", and couldn't even hoist a ladder.
Good part was, she was good looking, and after we all completed the courses, we went out, and I had a bit of "fun" with her![:D]
Didn't believe she belonged in that job either.
I am not a "sexist", but I don't believe that standards should be lowered for females, or hugely out of shape folks!0 -
Most including our Agency requires you to remain in excellant physical condition. I know you aee alot of big bellied cops in small towns, but they can sure jump in and help subdue an unruly prisoner. As once said thats all Ive got to say about that.[;)] 0 -
I was never more opposed to anything in my life than female LEO's!
Thankfully I was retiring about the time they were joining my department.
They have no place in police or firefighting positions!!!0 -
There are losts of women that do a good job i think its a little harsh to say they just dont belong. On the other hand there are lots of people who shouldnt be in LE period. 0 -

A few years ago local LE was on a neighborhood manhut for a shooter. The video clip that keep showing on the evening news was of some 300+ pounder holding a shotgun at one of the road blocks. I keept thinking how can this guy even move let alone run down some thug? 0 -
The sad thing is that most agencies are too afraid of lawsuits to discipline/fire any one. Severely obese officers are a danger to their colleague's. I fought the "battle of the bulge" for 23 years in the USN, I won, and it was worth it.

I agree and I'm not a LEO. They also don't belong in any combat roles in the military. What do you think is going to happen to a woman if she gets shot down? The class idiot could figure that out. It is also different when a woman's guts are hanging out on the battlefield.
Now back to the point of fat cops. Alot of the county LE's are well over 250 pounds and even have a hard time getting out of the patrol car. PUT DOWN THE FRIES AND EXERCISE! The only stat that goes their way is that ~2/3 of the population is fat so there is a good chance that if a foot chase happens it will be one tub of lard chasing another lard a**[}:)]0 -
I think there need to be fair, appropriate physical ability minimums, and it shouldn't be gender specific. If a woman is physically capable, and wants to, she should be allowed to hold whatever job or serve in whatever position... 0 -
Most "good" departments have physical requirements for officers to pass annually. Doesn't sound like this one does. 0 -
I'm a sexist about this stuff.
Back to the M-14 and 1911.
