Built myself a new toy...Range Report 7/24
So I've been gradually accumulating parts for this build since about May, and finally got it all together. I surfed around AR15.com for a few months reading everything I could and when the upper finally got here, it only took an hour to put together using the instructions on their site.
Here's some specs...
Double Star Stripped Lower
Del-Ton Mid-Length Complete Flattop Upper
16" 1x9 Chrome Lined Barrel
A2 Flash Hider
Detachable Carry Handle
Del-Ton Lower Parts Kit
M4 4 Pos. Stock
4-16x40 Center Point scope
And some pics...

Heck yeah I'm always game for some friendly competition...This is my first AR so maybe you can give me some pointers. I'll be heading back to school (SDSMT) in Rapid at the end of August and I've been hoping I would be able to find some people to shoot with and a range to shoot at.0 -
You mind me asking how much everything ran you? I've been itching to do the same and wonder if it is worth it. 0 -
what type power scope is it? 0 -

I don't know what SDeadeyes rifle cost to assemble but with my connections I could build that rifle less the scope for under 600.00
Assembling the AR yourself is the way to go.
You get the exact configuration you want and they really are easy to assemble.0 -

I'll see if I can find the receipts quick...
The stripped lower was $95 shipped plus a $25 transfer fee
The complete upper was $602.xx shipped from Del-Ton
I got 3 20 and 2 30 round mags from 44mag.com for around $60 shipped
Basically for under $800 I got a complete rifle and 5 mags. You can do it cheaper, finding used parts and whatnot. The kit from Del-Ton is actually only $465 I think but then adding the chrome lined barrel and carry handle raises up the price pretty fast.
But the way I look at it (justify it to myself [:p]) is now for under $500 I can buy a complete upper in 7.62x39, 6.5 Grendel, 6.8 SPC, .458 SOCOM, or however many other calibers and have basically a brand new rifle.0 -
That is a clean machine. Proof is in the shooting though. Let us know... 0 -
btt...definitely want to hear a range report!!! 0 -
Sweet, one day I would like to get around to building my own from Bushmaster parts. Safe Shooting!! 0 -

I'll be anxious to hear the report. Also, who did you find to have the best prices on the parts? 0 -
I would check out ar15.com and their equipment exchange (classifieds) to find good prices on parts. There is a section to get used parts if you would like, and also many of the site's sponsors post their items and deals on there. I got my lower receiver from there through Kiser Munitions. The upper I got from http://www.del-ton.com/...they have pretty good prices, and very good quality and customer service. There's also a bunch on the auctions here, ya just gotta watch for deals. 0 -
Now that is about the most fun ya can have without being in bed!![}:)] The AR ran like a top. Went through about 160 rounds in an hour and a half or so. It shot Black Hills Blue Box, Federal American Eagle, Natec PCA (Polymer Cased Ammo), and Wolf all without a hiccup. All I had was 55 gr. FMJ bullets, but it was still fairly accurate, at 50 yards with iron sights I was easily keeping all 20 rounds inside the 5.5" target offhand. Hopefully this weekend I'll be able to do some shooting at 100+ yards and see how it does there and get the scope sighted in.
Some pics for your viewing pleasure...

Targets to get sighted in
Just some general blasting...fairly accurate "minute of coyote" at least...
20 rds. of Wolf 55gr. FMJ rapid fire [:D]
