Is a chevy 305 the same block as a 350 just bored out bigger?

i think so. 265 283 327 350 were the same block with a different bore 0 -
305 has a 3.736 bore and a 350 has a 4.0 bore.I believe the cylinder walls are thinner on a 305 than on a 350, so if you were getting any ideas I wouldnt recommend trying to stroke one to 350. 0 -

When the auto makers started making smaller cars.. in the mid early to mid 80's, Chevy used it's 350 block and just made the engine smaller...as to not use so much gas0 -
350 has a 4.00 inch bore
305 has a 3.735 inch bore
You will bore threw the cylinder and into the water jacket the 305 uses the same crankshaft as a 350 so if you want more cubic inches bore it .030 and put a 400 crank shaft in it a 400 crank is 3.75 inch stroke where the 350 & 305 use a 3.48 inch stoke crank

I always thought the 305 was underrated. It was made for power, but it wasn't an oil burner. I thought it was a good car or 1/2 ton engine. 0 -
Everyone forgets the forgettable Chevy 307 that was made with a 3.875" bore and a 3.25" stroke. The word was that the 307 was made from left over 283 blocks and 327 cranks because the 327 block with a short stroke 283 crank made the 302 which was the racers friend.
305s are designed to develop TORQUE which is what gets you around town from stop light to stop light. RPM is what determines HP which gets you top speed.. provided the engine is turning faster then 5250 RPM (the point where TORQUE and HORSE POWER are equal)
If you go the STROKER Crank route, make sure you check the rod bolt clearance to the block. When this is done via CAD, we call it a Banjo study. You would want to check both the top and bottom swings and all four corners of each rod.. catastrophic engine failure is only enjoyable when it is someone else's engine!0 -

The only difference in the 289 and the 305 are the heads. The same on most medium block engines.

I allways considered the 307 to be a good little motor!
We built one back in highschool and it was a little screemer, although it was kind of a dog offf the line. But once it did get to RPM it would haul a$$!0 -

A 305 and a 350 are not the same block, Same as a 350 and a 400 are not the same block. Although parts can be interchanged from one to another, they are not the same. Cylinder wall thickness, bore, crank clearance and cam location (measurement from crank to center of cam) are all different.0
