Bore axis comparison photo of my toys
OK guys,
here's how my toys compare for lowness(sp?)of their bore axises for general muzzel flip reaction (discounting the relative weights of each as factors)
All mine are 40 caliber.
Looks like the Glock has it!

Upload picture to a Host site (www.photobucket.com is a good one).
Copy the URL of the photo and paste the URL inbetween the IMG tag code you'll see when you click the IMG button (4th from the left, above). Or you can click on the 3rd line of code under your PB photo, and copy that (it has the IMG code tags already in place), than paste that into your post.
Hint, hit the "enter" key between photos, so they stack verticly instead of sitting side by side.0 -

The least amount of muzzel flip based on highest hand grip height (most in-line) relation to bore.
And the back angle of the grips.0 -

Sorry...I took the photos off thinking it was bad taste in the heartbreaking climate of tragic shootings of innocent students, etc. I don't want to encourage any wackos to get a collection other than for self protection from violence on your own home, or supervised range target shooting.
I'm definitely not a wacko. And don't want to encourage someone who is.

Wacko???? Who said you were wacko. If owning multipul guns make you wacko then i am in big trouble. There is nothing wrong with owning a few extra guns than what you realy need. Take a look at some of my collection.
And there are some guys on here that own much MUCH more guns than i do.
Bottom line--- Never apalogize for owning a gun!0 -

Well,
I really think in relatively high caliber pistols, that the least muzzel flip is with something that is most closely(in a horizontal line)aligned straight back between the bore and (as close as possible) to the center of the hand.
Besides the weight of the pistol.
And in quick double(or triple)tap "target" reacquistion, I believe it really is a factor.

If you have a problem re-acquiring a target due to muzzle flip - get a lighter cartridge and learn how to shoot it.
It is hard to believe that you are unable to hit a man-sized target at typical combat distances of 21 feet, due to muzzle flip.
If you intend to engage human targets farther away than that, get a shotgun, rifle, or run away.
Preferably, run.

Lower caliber, not for me....I like 40 cal.
And I don't have much of a problem. I'm talking about tight grouping at 15 yards, or so(not feet).
It just is a preference to less muzzel flip, that's all.
OK guys, here's the photo back. Sorry my camera flash didn't illuminate them clearer. Clockwise from top right, they are Taurus Millenium Pro PT140, Springfield XD-40, Steyr M40A-1, 40 cal. Glock 23, Beretta (Stoeger)8000 cougar 40 cal.
(the Glock has a laser grip that lowers the grip height slightly, than without it)0 -
first the "double tap" is a delusion passed on by inexperienced shooters, there is no such thing, yes you can pull the trigger real fast and hope the second one hits close, but a master shooter can actually aim that second shot in the same amount of time if not quicker, i see what you are saying but i do not think your method would be accurate because the way you are measuring would not be accurate because the axis would have to be measured by the relationship to the grip, not the top of the slide
the muzzle flip has many other factors, the twist rate of the rifling, the actual end of the rifling as it comes out of the barrel can have an effect, bullet weight vs. velocity=pf, bullet type, type of rifling, recoil spring type, and weight
by time most shooters can "double tap" one target a good master shooter can hit two targets with the same accuracy, the only way to achieve what you are wanting is through extensive practice, with a .45 and loads at 170pf, i out shoot most shooters with a 9mm at 130pf, but it takes tens of thousands of rounds, and practice everyday to do so, go here and to some reading, use the search option, there is enough info here to keep you reading until Christmas, some of the members are, rob leatham, todd jarred, matt burket, julie gosloski, ken hackthorn, dave sevigny, and many other of the worlds top shooters, to help you "tame" the recoil as you desire
