Suggestions for a bolt gun

Well, the gun bug has bit me again.....

Last time I ended up with my first wheelgun. Now I'm in the market for a good bolt-gun.

I'm looking for something that's more of a "do-everything" (or at least most things) gun.

I've heard really good things about Sako rifles and that will likely be what I purchase, I'm just trying to figure out a caliber.

    Rem 700 in .30-06 or 7mm Rem Mag.

    If the Sako is too much money you could also look at a Tikka, they are basically Sako's budget line. But if it was my money I would buy a nice Savage, they are renowned for their accuracy and they have the best trigger on the market.

    I once asked my Pop about all of the new magnums and what he thought about them. He said to me:

    "Boy, one day they are going to invent the best cartridge in the world, it will do everything you could ever dream of. It'll shoot 110 gr bullets at varmints and 220 gr bullets a bears, and take both with authority. Plus it'll be very accurate and win many 1000 yard matches. On top of that it'll be so popular that you could find ammo everywhere for a decent cost. You see boy, when they invent that cartridge it'll be called the 30-06.

    The 30/06 is the most popular caliber in the US, it can be used with 110 gr bullets for varmit up to 220 gr for Bear. Its a tough choice with all the good calibers out there. Ive had good luck Deer hunting with my 7MM Mag. Good luck!!

    If a person hunted primarily whitetail, then I would suggest a 30-06. Ammo is plentiful just about anywhere you want it. Also consider a 25-06 or 7mm-08 where you could hunter smaller game at farther distances. That ammo is not as easily found and generally more expensive.

    I'm with Mk19. Look at the Tikka. The only real difference between them and the Sakos are the action and the furniture. The barrels are made by the same machines in the same building. The Tikka actions are smooth as a baby's bottom and the trigger is great.

    As for caliber. I would go with the 30-06. Practice ammo is still realitively cheap and you can always find components if you reload.

    If you are looking for something a little more exotic, go for one of the WSM cartridges. All three will cover the table when it comes to North American (and a majority of African) game.
