Most folks are darned friendly here in Montana!
Since my wife and I moved to Western Montana, we've found that most folks are darned friendly here. No matter where you go, somebody always goes out of their way to say hi, or wave as you pass one another on the road. We're still getting use to that, as it didn't seem to happen very often in our former home state of California. For whatever reason, people just seem happier here too. Perhaps for the same reason we moved here? My wife and I are still trying to get to know the surrounding area and small towns outside of Missoula. A couple weekends ago we went to the Nine Mile House (a well built log lodge design with a bar and restaurant). Of course, we were treated like "regulars" the moment we stepped through the door. Today I was reading through the on-line version of our local newspaper (the "Missoulian") and found that the owners of the Nine Mile House have sold it! We're still looking forward to going back and will then have a chance to meet the new owners. If you read the article, you'll catch the joke that the former owner pulls on his new guests. Yep, he got us with the mouse trick too. [:D]

I'm really glad to hear you made the move, I seem to recall you mentioning it a long while back when you were just kicking it around. Make sure you're polite in return and ditch the California plates and you should be all set! 0 -

I lived there for about 5 years loved it the people would stop to help if you broke down.I traveled the state selling buz.systems,
only problem sooo far betwen towns.If your ever in haver mt. check out the resturants they feed you like you wouldnt belive.0 -
I lived in Kalispell / Whitefish area for 10 years. It's a great place to live if you can afford it. Folks are very nice, and the sceinery is superb. Glad you like it. I sure don't miss the winters though. 0 -

One of my sons and a daughter have transplanted to Great Falls from the mountains of western Va. And here we wave to everybody..so now I know why he says it is almost like home. He keeps offering elk hunting expeditions...one of these days Im gonna take him up on it...unless he stays when he comes home to visit in June...

Take him up on elk and all kinds of hunting. A friend's dad from PA visited him last year ... we took him out on a deer hunt and he had a blast. He's coming back this year.0 -
Someone I knew moved from California to Alabama...they thought it was funny how everyone "waves" from their car to each other here. When you are driving and there is a going to be something up ahead people will flash their lights....speed trap....wreck ahead....something in the road. He kept saying "my lights aren't even on and they keep flashing me!" I told him it slow down....and just then we saw the trooper parked at the side of the road. 0 -

Montana as well as Idaho has set up road blocks at the state line to turn back emigrants. Whether they be from Mexico or Kalifornia.

I liked Kalispell...Worked for the forest service at Bitterroot Lake. The wife and I are headed up to Whitefish this summer for a week or two of vacation..Much better fishing than CO.. 0 -
Its always strikes me as funny (actually hypocritical) how the white anglo-saxon montanans critize people from out of state moving there and "ruining" their fine state. Most often it is Californians who get the blame but most stats show the majority of people who move to Montana are from states other than California. However, its also nice to see people who move FROM California to Montana now thinking they own the place and have the right to bas other Californians or people from other states. However, the thing that is MOST funny is that I can only imagine how the Native America tribes living the Montana area felt about the whites who moved into their country. Makes all of the white intolerants currently living in Montana look rather foolish and pathetic.
as a side note - i know far more montanans living in california then californians living in montana.0 -

Newt - you are correct, to a point. The PROBLEM with the KALIFORNIANS...is they want to CHANGE Montana to the way THEY want it. The Kali people tend to be vocal and know how to manipulate other people, agencies, etc.
THAT is why we pick on Kalifornia people....you can ALWAYS pick them out of the crowd.0 -

Then you are the exception - there are a few. Just leave it a little cleaner than you found it, don't bring the politics, legislation, drugs, etc, etc and enjoy Montana for all the time that you can.

well you guys have to remember that california used to be a fairly conservative state. californians never complain about people from other states coming here to change things (illegals beig the exception). I mean, are Montanians saying that if you move to "their" state that you have to automatically vote how they vote ? My personal experiences with transplants to montana is that they are usually the conservative ones. They have tried to escape the liberal confines of their home states. 0 -
The weather in Montana is better, and the general desirability of the state is far better than those features of Orygun.
Matter of fact, I'm going to move there and take all my friends and relatives out of this hellhole to go to Montana. Everyone else is invited, too.
