Favorite Deer Bullet?
What is it? soft point, nosler partition, ballistic tip, PSP, ect. I don't have one yet, should be going on my first hunt next fall, but was wondering what everyone else's favorite was. And when I go hunting it will be with my own loads for the ultimate joy.

The one that shoots the best out of my gun. I'm all about the accuracy of the loads I shoot so if a Nosler isn't going to shoot as well as a Barnes then I'm going to shoot the Barnes. 0 -
Federal 12 Ga. 2 3/4 Sabot slug...
Federal .44 Mag. 240 gr. JHP
No rifle hunting in Illinois[:)]0 -
Don't know what kind of bullet they use, but have had AWESOME luck with the Fusion cartridges for my son's 7mm-08. Have used Core-lokt with OK results. Sometimes I would get a flyer with my 30-30. The new Hornady rounds put a stop to that. Those things are great! Sorry, but I don't reload, so can't tell you exactly what you want to know. 0 -
Hornady 250 SST. Coming out of my Savage muzzleloader at 2,300 fps, it hits like the Hammer of Thor! 0 -
I've been reloading my own since the very early '60s and loaded Sierra Spitzer Boat Tail bullets mostly. Then, I discovered Nosler partitioned Spitzer and Semi Spitzer Bullets. I liked them really well and stuck with them. For my 22-250,(for varmints) I still use Sierra Hollow Point Boat Tail.....52gr. [:)][:)]

The one that kills the deer.
Hit it in the lungs/heart/central nervous system with a toilet plunger at 500FPS and it will die.0 -

Well said!
Personaly, I have used 30/30, 35Rem, .243, .25WSSM, 6mmRem and .50 (no, not BMG!, Powerbelts)
Only one has gone more than 30 yards.
Specifically, I like the Sierra Game Kings HPBT in all my smallbores.0 -
I have had good results with Sierra GameKings or ProHunters. 0 -
Nosler Balistic Tip has been the ultimate meat bullet for medium game I have ever seen.
And, as Allen Griggs Stated,..the Savage 10ML muzzle loader running the either the 250gr XTP or SST is an absolute, vicious, death blow. It actually shoves things out of the exit hole[}:)]0 -
core lokt[;)] 0 -
For stanard calibers sierra gamekings, core-lokts, softpoints if magnum calibers I go to Barnes thriplx,or nolser partitions 0 -
Remington Core Lokt in .308 and 7mm Mauser have worked very well for me for close to 40 years. Have never had a deer go more than 50 yards after being hit, never lost one. Not sure if it can get better than that. 0 -
We hunt deer with the 308, handloaded with Speer 150 grain spitzer pointed soft point bullets (#2023). Very effective and accurate. RJSnow 0 -
Mostly PSP or Ballistic tip. But like's all ready been said, the one YOUR gun likes and bullet placement is #1. Put a hole in 'em in the boiler room and they ain't goin' far. Just don't use thin jacketed varment bullets. 0 -
270 Win
Federal Fusion 130 Grain Spitzer Boat Tail

Federal Premium Vital-Shok 150 Grain Nosler Ballistic Tip
Have not hunted with Federal Fusion ammo yet with it.

Federal Premium Vital-Shok 100 Grain Boat Tail Soft0 -

Not really. A tougher animal needs a tougher bullet. I wouln't use a ballistic tip on a water buffalo.0 -
.270 Win. 55 grains of IMR 4831 pushing 130 grain Speer Grand Slams or Nosler Partitions. My Ruger #1 loves 'em. This is not a maximum load, but it's easy on brass, and makes tight groups in paper, and big holes in whitetails. 0 -
Nosler Ballistic Tips in 7mm and .30 and Speer Grand Slams in 243. Remington Corelokt in factory loads are hard to beat. Most disappointing Winchester Power Points. 0 -

I would; Right eye to left ear equals cottage cheese for a brain. Death would be instant and spectacular.0 -
Nosler Ballistic Tip...hands down! Between several of us on the forum, I'll bet we've put away at least 1000 deer with BT's... 0 -
bpost, I would certainly hope you got the hit you wanted the FIRST time on that. Not much room for error there. 0 -
I like the nosler partition even on deer. 0 -
Hornady 100grain SP 243. Shot an inch group at 200 yds three days ago. They're hand-loaded by a friend of mine. 0 -
I like a Hornady or a Remington 300 grn JHP with 60 grns of H4198 under it in my Marlin 1895 45/70. Absolutely devastating. Dave[:D] 0
