disposal of firearms
I have inherited a couple of pistols and some rifles and shotguns. Some pre l900 and some early l900. I do not have a Federal Firearms License. What would be the best way for me to dispose of these guns and get close to their true value? I am confused as to whether I can sell on this site. My health is failing and I don't want any stresses or legal problems. I want to do this right. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

You certainly can sell on this site if you wish. Good digital pictures are a must for generating interest and getting top dollar.

Yes, you DO NOT need a FFL to sell private collections. Yes you can sell on this site,on the auction side of course. You will have to ship the firearms to a licensed dealer who will be chosen by the buyer. Some dealers WILL NOT accept shipments from a private citizen. That is not the law, but some dealers choose to make it the law. There are a few states(California for one) where the above may not apply. In these cases you can either ship through a dealer on your end and add the cost to the shipping total or you can warn these people not to bid. 0 -

You may want to consider taking them to an auction. I go to every gun auction within 50 miles of the St. Louis area and every gun sells for more than they are worth. Here is a link to a guy that sells many guns here in St. Louis: http://www.estateauctionpros.com/
If you go to a gun shop they will only offer you about half of what they are worth.0 -
Also good to know is that you can sell them to an out-of-state possessor of a Curio & Relics FFL. This particular classification is for collectors of handguns and long guns older than 50 years. The long guns can be shipped USPS.
The Type 03 FFL is a three year license which enable the holder to buy both handguns and long guns without having the items received through a "regular", or Type 01, FFL.
California is an exception.
In addition, in my home state, Pennsylvania, face to face sales of long guns is completely legal. I don't know about your state.
In either case, it is wise to see and copy a valid state-issued photo identification, in addition to a clear copy of the receiving FFL if shipping out of state.
If you were to post your list and perhaps get clear and revealing photos, there are plenty of collectors that could help you price your items, along with providing links to past auctions of similar items so you could see how the marketplace is currently valuing your items.

Go to the auction side and click on the "How do I sell" link on the top of the page. It is easy and with very good pictures and accurate description you will get good market value for them here. If you need good information about them, post pictures here and ask for opinions/information. These fine folks will be more than happy to assist....that has always been my experience here. 0 -
