I see that our know-little and do-less state legislature is gathering in Baton Rouge intent on passing legislation banning cockfighting in one of the last two states in the Union where those contests are legally held. (I understand some part of Kansas still allows it.)
I was curious to learn how this forum's members felt about such things. I for one believe we have just about as many laws as we need, or as many as we can stand to have. Is there to be no end to the creation of stifling laws and limitations on our personal freedoms?
Whether anyone on this forum approves of cockfighting or not, the ban on it is another example of the erosion of our right to happiness and liberty. Every step this smug society takes to enforce the majority's taste by law takes us all a step further away from the Constitution.
Do not be mislead into thinking that supporting such a departure from the founders' thinking is the least bit noble nor is in the best interest of this once-great nation. If a citizen cannot enjoy his own property, within reasonable bounds and doing no harm to the general public, do not think that hunting, fishing, frogging, and any other such activities will escape this New Age collapse of our liberty.
All the smokescreens I seen connected with this legislative effort do not amount to squat. Some supporters of the ban cite the gambling involved while the only hall where I've seen the fights had video poker machines, as do doughnut shops, hamburger stores, and most every barroom in south Louisiana. Gambling is absolutely not the point.
And as far as killing a chicken, please. My Jen has a match with one of her pullets about every other week and Jen ALWAYS wins. In fact the only reason she keeps animals around the place (with the exception of a couple of sorry dogs and a cat) is to kill them.
Am I wrong to see this as another expression of government control by a government that is plainly out of control? I honestly do not believe that this is for the public good? I own neither fighting roosters nor a full-auto rifle, but at one time I was led to believe that it is my God-given and inalienable right to have and enjoy them both if I so chose and had the means to obtain them.0 -
Lots of breeders where I live, but interstate shipment is usually a problem. Requires health certs etc. Your best hope is to find them in your state. 0 -
I have a couple of cocks. Don

He Dog There is a small group in the city. I've heard of some boys around here that got them but the guy at the feed store seemed reluctant to help me out. I've also seen them on a few farms but i am too chicken [:o)] to stop and ask.
