This sect is interesting in the way they treat the body and soul.I wonder if any of you can shed any light on this subject.In the past it has been refered to as a cult.

I grew up as a Seventh Day Adventist in South Georgia. Our church was basically like a Baptist church that held church on Saturday. Saturday being the true Sabbath. Our family kind of pulled out when the church started going vegan. I remember hearing as a child about how SDA members were persecuted around the world. Now a days I go to a Baptist church and enjoy the looks I get when I remind them that Sunday is the first day of the week not the seventh. 0 -

Saturday is the true sabbath, no one can prove different, there is money to be had if anybody thinks they can.I know a couple of familys and they are good people,clean living, home schooling their children,normal by all the outward signs.
I just could never figure out the association with cults.

I can't say I know a great deal about SDAs. But I do know in Hebrews we are told not to let petty disagreements get in the way of our relationships. If they want to worship on Sat., so be it. Most Protestants worship Sun. to celebrate The Risen Lord, sort of like Easter every week. The day doesn't matter, the worship does.
I'll admit I've never understood the insistence on using The King James Bible exclusively. The original KJV would be unreadable to modern people. There are now many very good translations available. Some are a great aid in gaining understanding. Again, if that's their way (KJV only), then so be it.0 -
to many in this forum if you do not belong to their church you are part of a cult,,there is at least a person or two who believe that their church is the only one accepted by God and if you go to any other church you have missed the point of have been fooled by false scripture or just to dumb to read it correctly,,I believe God just wants you to do right ,,I dont think it matters if you are Baptist Methodist or 7th day ,if you believe in God , I dont think he would care who's church building you are in,,as I have said before I believe there is more than one road to get where you need to be,,,If you are 7th day or belong to any other church thats gets trashed and called a cult in here you just have to remember the source and remember there are Christian fanatics just like there are fanatics in any other religion,,,,just laugh it off ,,smile to yourself and go own,,,remember these people will be the ones to stand up front on their judgement day 0 -

I was raised a Baptist but when I was older I took some Bible Study classes with the Seventh Day Adventist. The only REAL difference I could find was the day of Worship. Don 0 -

Exactly how is saturday the sabath (sabath meaning day of rest), God was still working on saturday, he rested on sunday!!0 -

??? Go look at your calender. On what day does the week start? Which day does it end? The Jewish Sabath begins fri. evening and goes til Sat. evening. That's where this comes from.0 -
The Branch Davidians were an offshoot of the Seventh Day Adventist church. Not an indictment, just a fact.
The sabbath day is the seventh day of the week. Most Christians meet on Sunday, because it was on Sunday that Jesus came back from the dead. I believe the early 1st century Christians made Sunday their holy day for that reason, and to set it apart from the Jewish sabbath.0 -
I don't know enough about the Seventh Day Adventist to say anything about their beliefs.
Sunday is the first day of the week. Saturday is the seventh day of the week, or the Sabbath. Most of the early Christians were Jews and observed the Sabbath. They changed to Sunday in observance of the Resurrection and Pentecost.0 -
Is Sunday the first day just because that is how we do our calendar? What if we did our calendar with Monday first, then Sunday 7th? Seems it is all arbitrary. 0 -

The primary reason the SDA church has been refered to as a cult has been that they did not have a clear "Statement Of Faith" and it has only been just recently that one was adopted. If you don't state what you believe who know's if your a cult or not. I do have several friends who are former SDA's and they refer to it as a cult because the church would quote Ellen G White more often than Jesus, so it left question of who you are truly worshiping? Today there is really little between a SDA church and a regular old Baptist/Luthern/Presbaterian.0 -

Some modern day calendars do start with Monday. Saturday being the Sabbath goes back as far as the Jews remember their history. To anybody who doesn't believe the Old Testament of the Bible or the Torah, or Jewish history, I guess it would be arbitrary.0 -

Yes thats right...but that was humans that made it that way not God, I think saturday is Satans day0
