Winchester 1200

My cousin has a Winchester 1200 12 gauge shotgun. He want to trade it in on a bolt shotgun. Why? I dunno. But he says sometimes when he pumps the shotgun, the mt is ejected from the side and the live shell drops out the bottom.

Obviously, this should not be the case. Anyone have a solution?

He figures he could get maybe $150 at best on a trade for it with 2 barrels (One for turkey and one for deer). I figure his mind is made up and maybe I could get it at a reasonable price, but I need advice for this problem.

    Sorry, never heard of that happening.
    I just sold one with the winchokes, and vent rib barrel here for 200 bucks,........it was virtually like new.
    Just didn't use it anymore, but never had any issues with it either.

    Sounds like the shell holder is bent and not holding the next shell into the tube,, easy fix if that is the problem..

    O.K. , the wichester 1200 series 'stuff' was (is) a bad black eye for the company ??? I worked @ winchester from '80 -'83 as a 'gunnerytech' (gunsmith) , and all of us really didnt like them at all ???
    If he can trade it off , then he is better off in the long run ...

    Sounds like a worn/damaged carrier...The assembly costs about $40 to replace (parts only)...But the 1200 isn't worth the effort..

    I agree with Classics diagnoses, I have a 1300 Speed Pump and I love the way it patterns. Its very tight out to 25 yrds or so.

    I had the same thing happen to mine. I'm betting it wasn't used for a while. Assuming the same thing is wrong with yours, it's simple. The trigger group is sticky. Remove it and clean it. All I had to do with mine is hose it down with WD-40, and work it in. Took care of the problem.

    i have several 1200's and i shoot one alot .i never encountered any problems mentioned .also i am a little surprised hearing of a bad rap on the 1200 line .i never heard anyone complain of a 1200 problem ,and only one complaint on a 1300 . the only shotgun ive had a problem with was a remington 1100 and it was a quick and inexpensive fix .id give the winchester some attention if had the opportunity .im sure it is something simple .
