Best Concealed Handgun
I have all my paperwork done to get my concealed weapons permit here in Oregon, but I don't have anything smaller than a 357 Mag. I'm wondering what would be a good and small self defense gun. I'm looking to spend no more than 4 or 5 hundred bucks. And again, I want something small. Also, I plan on getting a laser for it. So what would be a good small gun that I wouldn't have trouble getting add ons for?

I've carried both Kimber Ultra Carry and Springfield compact XD45. I prefer the Springfield, the grip is shorter and a little thinner. 0 -
...Ive alaways carried a .45,used to the weight and size.
Just asked the other night about a "small" carry gun...and some of the always great memebers put me onto a Kel-Tec. model P something or another[8D].
While out buying a new range bag, I found one yesterday, but they only had a .32 in stock, boy, they don't weigh squat! And litte!
The 9mm has a l-o-n-g trigeer pull, TWO customers that had them told me...but, the .380 had a nice trigeer on it.
So when they get an OD green ([:D]hey it needs to be fun don't it?) .380 in, I'm going in to see how it "feels". Found out you can get an extension for their mags too...should make it fit my hand better.
I'd check out the Kel-Tec, small, and from these guys around here, reliable...and $239 NIB. I'd prefer the 9mm, but if it has a crappy trigger, I'l pass.
They also had a Taurus .357 hammerless SS, that looked like the Smith airweight. $315 NIB, small and light too, but a lot bigger than the Kel-Tec...[;)]hmmm, more ummmph!...[:p]
...I'm just leary of hand guns that are not named Colt, Browning, or Smith...I need to work on my "snobbery"...[:D]

S&W or Colt .38 spcl. snubby. Enough stopping power, comfortable to carry, and plenty of ammo options. 0 -

Well up here in Portland we carry the wussie pistols without the lasers. I carry a pocket Kel-Tec P3AT in 380 cal or my Kel-Tec 32, or Seecamp 32. Carried in Galco pocket leather holsters.
I do have a S&W model 38 with a crimson trace laser that works very nice also as a carry gun. Another good choice is the Sig 232 in 380.
The above are all defensive guns that are easy to carry. If I was heading into the woods or a dangerous area I would always pack a 45 acp. Just my personal preference.
Find a gun that fits your hand well and you can shoot accurately. Good luck with your choice.0 -

I kind of like the custom KT p3at I got here on GB a while back.
Very concealable, and will slip right in your jeans pocket.
I've seen a non-intrusive laser for them, although costly.

Have caried a variety of autos- but for personal defense, concealed, double action hammerless or shrouded hammer revolver- 38 Special or 357 Mag. For when it HAS to work, first time, every time. Most folks are 2-3 Seconds into being mugged before it really soaks in. Likely to be a very exciting event. Lot of opportunities to screw up. With a DA revolver, draw, point, pull. If it should not go bang, repeat step 3. 0 -

Thanks for all the advice. The laser wasn't a for sure thing, just someting I was thinking about. I will deffinately re-consider that now. I'm heading to a gun show tommorrow, so I'll see what I end up with. I was also thinking of a derringer 45 / 410.

You've probably noticed there is more than one opinion on this subject. In my opinion you can't beat a Smith & Wesson J frame revolver. My favorite is the S&W Model 60-9 with bobbed hammer in .357 Magnum. 0 -

I didn't find anything at the gun show. Everything seemed to be priced more than usual. I did buy a little Raven Arms 25 semi auto for $20 though lol.
Also, how reliable are the Kel Tec 9mms? Is is something that I'm going to have to clean CONSTANTLY?0
