"See" a .45 ACP being shot
A friend of mine says if you are at the right (correct) angle to the shooter that you can actually see a .45 travel down range because it is such a slow bullet.
Has anyone ever done that?
Has anyone ever done that?

I've "seen" .308 rounds in flight through a spotting scope at Palma matches. Usually appears as a brief swirling disturbance in the very top edge of the scope's field of vision...as I understand it, that's the moment when the round is in equipoise; no longer travelling up, but hasn't started dropping, either.
The first time I saw it, I couldn't believe it.0 -
If you're ever able to fart around with pistols at long range, like 200+, .45 slugs coming into the target through the spotting scope are amusing: It looks like they're dropping in almost vertically.
(Heck, they probably are. Indirect fire!)
But yeah, I seen the other thing too.0 -
isn't it the vapor trail that actually you see? 0 -
I have shot then ran down range to see the point of impact. Most times I beat the shot by a few seconds. Don 0 -
When i was a PMI at the range saw that happen all the time .Even at the rifle range ,looking through a spotting scope, you can see a heat trail of a 556.

I use to shoot high power DCM matches and it was not uncommon at to be able to see a .308 or .223 parting the mirage on the way to the target. You had to be looking through the spotting scope but you could defintey see the path of the bullet. With practice you could even call the shot on target. 0 -
anyone ever looked through a set of "bigeyes"?? two spotting scopes bracketed together like binos?? I can see EVERY bullet that goes down range with a set of those. Too rich for my blood right now,..but very nice.
Also,..many many shooters have seen the sun gleam off of the base of a copper jacketed bullit in flight when the sun is at the right angle. Witnessed that many times myself,..with centerfire rounds down to a 22lr.0 -
The sun has to be at the right angle to see the bullets. I have seen many bullets flying from 22 LR to 45-70. Lighting and conditions have to be just right for you to see it. 0 -

Yes to .40, .45, 9mm and blackpowder.
All it takes is the sun over the back, and the right angle to see them.
Yeah i belive that...sometimes in the right sun you can see the pellets come out of a shotgun.0
