Taking the course

tonight to get my CCW. I figure it's only a question of time, before our legislature decides to change the laws so that it will be impossible to get one.

Next step will be to find the suitable carry. I have looked at many .357 revolvers (revolver is my preference due to simplicity, durability and safety) but having a tough time deciding on barrel length, hammerless vs concealed hammer and then a guy at the gun shop shows me what looked like a slide hammer? and ported barrel for what[?]. Maybe I'm over thinking it all.....again. Suggestions?

  Get something light enough that you will carry it.
  
  I would suggest a S&W airweight - sure it's only 5 shots of 38, but that's better than a 6 shot 357 you left at home.

  it must be stainless, go for something light but not to light, it needs to be a gun that you will shoot all the time, depending on your build anything from 2 1/2 to 4 in barrel, I prefer exposed hammers over bobbed (personal prefrence),here are a few to look at:

  J frame 2" would be just fine in my opinion.

  The class was good, though most of the information was very basic. The instructor, was great. He had a Taurus .38special airweight, that seemed like a good deal at $299, though it had a standard hammer configuration and som tacky gold trim on the hammer, cylinder release and trigger. He was also pushing a Kel-Tec .380. Nice little gun, but I think it's too small for my mitts.

  I guess a .380 is better than nothing, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

  Save a few bucks and go with the Taurus 651 SHC titanium in .357. I was concerned about the light weight hurting my hand when I shoot but I practive with .38's and they dont bother me at all, when I'm done I load five .357 and shoot them, not too bad and hey IF you ever have to shoot the .357 you will be on adrenalin and never feel it anyway. The light weight is a great carry advantage, the .357 is more effective carry weapon then the .38, I would not buy a heavier gun to avoid recoil and would not go with less caliber either.
