We wouldn't strike back at Iran. Saudi and Pakistan both have Nukes...they are suposed allies to us. Iran would hit Israel first. Israel retalliates and Saudi and Pakistan Nuke Israel for contaminating their air. Syria supports Iran, Saudi, and Pakistan. Iraqi's would turn and support the triad as well. Egypt and Libya would turn coat and join the coalition. Venezuala, Cuba, North Korea join the coalition as well. Taiwan....still mad the US quit seeing them as a Soveriegn country supports the Triad and formerly joins China in supporting the Coalition.
illegal immigrants would flee our country fast and Canada and Mexico would say we asked for what is coming.
Our economy would halt as the European Union would vote neutrality on the matter. They aren't about to die for Israel again.

Iran would not use a nuclear weapon against America. They would give it to a terrorist group and make the ties back to Iran difficult. I dont think a democrat president of the USA would have the balls to strike Iran unless there was a direct link. Basically I think America is going to get hit by a nuclear weapon. North Korea most likely has the capability to hit some part the US with a nuclear weapon right now... and kim jong il has chose not to do that.
Even if Iran develops a nuke, they don't have a delivery system to hit the US if launched from Iran. Now... they could possibly buy an ICBM from Russia, and these have a maximum range of about 3,700 miles. Still not long enough to hit the US if launched from Iran (except maybe Alaska or Hawiaii - don't have a world map in front of me to measure the distance).
Now, they could use a submarine from the pacific to launch one to hit us... or smuggle one to some place near the Bering Strait or Central Amercia and launch one from there.
The only type of technology that has the ability to travel all the way around the globe would be something like a Saturn V rocket... and these were designed to carry astronauts, not nukes. Iran would have alot of trouble getting one of these unless they stole one from China.
I'm not sure Iran would hit the US with a nuke that has its name painted on it. I think they probably have at least enough intellect to realize their country would be obilerated if they did. They'd be more likely to hand it off to a terrorist group to use against us, or use it to hit israel. Honestly, something like a dirty bomb is more probable.
Iran is not likely to have several nukes in the near future. 1 or 2 maybe, but not 10 or 20. If the US responds to any country that nukes us with a nuclear attack of our own - if we launch more than one nuke, the entire country that nuked us will be "glowing in the dark" for a very long time...0 -
ICBM's are not necessary. They could put it in a ship bound for any US port and set it off in the harbor. But I don't think the would do that. They could just kiss their ass goodbye! A better bet is Isreal. The Isralis know it and will act before the fact. N. Korea is more of a wildcard. China will have to sit on them. They are part of the world now and.......(fill in the blanks).

Most nuclear weapons are very sophisticated items. You can't just light a fuse on one and expect it to blow up. That's why there are less than 10,000 people in the entire world who know how to create and detonate these things - other than those who sit in silos in North Dakota who can launch one with the push of 2 buttons.
The type of thing you're talking about could be done with a dirty bomb or a small tactical nuke. But this is not the type of thing that's going to flatten several square miles from the blast. The main threat of these devices is radiation exposure.
From what I hear about how many people watch "CSI" in america - you may think american law enforcement could trace the entire origin of a nuclear weapon, should one go off... but this isn't necessarily the case. I'm sure the american government could blame it on Iran though, and most people would believe it even if there was no solid evidence to back it up.0 -

If weapons are so easy to smuggle in, why have we not seen a flood of RPGs going to street gangs or organized crime? Why have we not seen a flood of heavy machine guns?
