Ok, mostly everyone here has the same opinion on the monicer, "assualt rifle." There's no such animal right? Well, if that's the case, then how come we all use names like,
Brush gun
truck gun
hunting rifle
SHTF gun
and so on........

I don't own an asault rifle,it is a home defence rifle, the zombies attacing me are the ones with asault rifles. 0 -

I call it Lorcin, Jennings and Davis. I call it a total POS. But, they do serve a purpose and it is a true shame that guns are priced in such a manner that many that need them the most cannot afford to have one.0 -
In a SHTF type situation, if I had to launch an assault, could I then refer to my rifle as an "assault rifle"? 0 -

Actually, "Assault Rifle" was coined by the Germans, for their Sturmgehwehr 44 (Storm gun 44). Storm gun transliterates to "Assault Gun" or "Assault Rifle".0 -
Those names fit the application of a particular firearm. "Assault Rifle" is a vague and threatening term, used to further a political agenda, where the others are not.

I don't have a problem w/the term "assualt rifle". Such an animal IMO does exist. Basically, like the weapon the term was coined for, it is a selective fire (semi/full auto) military rifle.
However I do not agree w/the lefts USE OF THE WORD and their descriptions of what constitutes an Assualt weapon or rifle.
"Any rifle w/a detachable magizine". That could mean any number of sporting rifles, such as the Ruger 10-22.
"Any rifle w/a pistol grip". How does a pistol grip make a rifle more lethal than any other similiar caliber rifle?
"Any rifle w/a bayonet lug." How stupid can you get? I'll bet it's at least a 100 years since anyone was bayoneted in the United States. But by that terminology, a Bolt Action WW-2 Japanese Arisaka could be an "assualt weapon".
Personally I think that true "assualt wepons" should be restricted, which they ALREADY ARE! And all this BS terminology is aimed at further expansion of firearms bans, once they get a AWB in place.
But I'll tell you a secret. In my experience, most American liberals will come around once they've had the differences between a true Assualt weapon, and what the left is trying to ban as assualt weapons explained to them.
Most of them don't know much about guns. And a surprizing number think that the AWB targets full auto rifles ONLY. And they think that the lefts "assualt weapons" are somehow more powerfull than sporting rifles. Which most are not even AS POWERFULL as many sporting rifles.
Spread the word. Post the difference on EVERY non-gun forum you frequent. Mis-information is the lefts primary tool in this issue! You'll be surprized how many people you can turn around.0 -

I think it is far better to use an accurate terminology, than it is to encourage the stereotyping that that encourages.

Another point. When's the last time that you know of that a true "assualt weapon" was used in a crime in the U.S.?
The N. Hollywood bank robbery/police shootout is the last I can recall. And both the AK-47's used there were reportedly captured in the Gulf War and illegally smuggled into the U.S..0 -
