We just pretty much make it up as we go. Some rumors, and a little bit of guess work, but mostly just made up.

5 personally and I have been on more hunts where I witnessed other shooters take Bear.
One of my Blacks from Canada was over 560 lbs and when mounted full size it had to be on a Grizzly form.

13 Bears total all black. The largest was 407 lbs. The smallest gun used was a 357 mag and the largest gun was a 350 rem mag.

300# Spring Bear Male in 1990 shot him at 75 yards with a 30/06. Dropped like a bag of hammers.
The stories? Well, I just make them up!!

Three blacks for me. The first with a 6.5X55. Second with a .270. Third was a .243. Shot placement is more important than caliber.

I have never killed a bear, but have been on several bear hunts in PA and here in GA.

None. Have no real desire to. But if I do, it will happen behind my house when I take out the trash. Pawprints all over the place. And yes, I keep a loaded rifle handy when I go out. Joe

I have never hunted bear. But in my neighborhood you don't leave the pavement without serious griz protection. Have never met a griz on the trail, and hope I never will. The general consensus is that anything small enough to be carried by one person isn't adequate for a griz.
