    sgt mango333,
Let me tell you about the Russian SKS. I got mine (2 1 for son, 1 for me) when you could buy them for $99.00 at the local gun show 8-9 years ago. Both had matching numbers on every part of it. Both were like new. Both of mine are now worth about $300-$400 each with the oiler, cleaning kit, & pouch for the zip clips. Russian ones were made with great care, all milled receivers, chrome bores (& possible bolts). I don't know the condition or if you have the original equipment buy look on GB under rifles, then search for sks. You'll get an idea what yours is worth. As for a rifle in 308, go with a Remington 700. Lots of hunters have never gone wrong with them.

The 700's are definitely nice! But most are a little out of my price range and don't have open sights.

I'm thinking I can get around $450 for the rifle, accessories, and ammo (hunting and ball). I've got about $160 saved and am looking in the $300 - $600 range.

There are several Remington models that fall within these paramaters - model 7, 742, 750, etc. I also saw a Browning BLR and like the lever action on these. Anyone know anything about these? I see that there are Japanese and Belgian variants and that the newer ones come in .300 and larger calibers. Anyone have experience with a BLR?
