    Ever see a PURPLE wasp/hornet?
I had a nest of them in one of those citranella candel tiki torch things by my deck. They were large as wasps go and VERY agressive. And they didn't like it when the mower came near.
One of them stung me on the stomach. I've had bee & wasp stings before, but this one was different. It rotted a nearly dime sized hole in my stomach that took months to heal. If I hadn't known better, I would've thought it was a spider bite.
I sprayed the nest w/wasp spray and it did NOT kill them. But it drive them off of it. So I grabbed it and took to my burn barrel and burned it. The Purple Wasps the disappeared and I haven't seen one since. And I don't want to!
I have asked several people about Purple Wasps and no one so far has ever seen or heard on it.

I think I have been stung by everything known in this area.
The worst was when I stuck my hand up into a make up air hood, on a large commercial A/C unit.
I thought I had hit a live wire at first, but when I yanked my hand out, it was covered by about 6 red wasps/ hornets,.........about 1.5 inches long. They hit me about 12 times, plus I tore a 2 inch gash in my hand when I had the reflex reaction.
Within about 5 minutes, I almost wanted to cut my hand off from the pain, and throbbing.
    Thank God,I am not allergic!
Next best,........working in the yard, and had a beer sitting on the shelf of my grill. Yellowjackets love beer!
Needless to say, I swallowed one still alive, and it stung me in the throat on the way down. Finished that beer real quick, to get it on its way down!!
Now if I am outside with a brewskie,......I peer into the bottle before I take a swig![:D][;)]

About 15-20 yrs ago I was cutting my lawn when I ran over top of a ground bee colony. These beasts are kin, I guess, to Wasps, but dwell in the ground and they are mean and nasty. They chased me about 20 yds to the house and were hitting me in the arm pits. Fortunately, I was wearing sweat pants with elastic cuffs and a cut-off shirt that was down to my elbows.
At any rate, when I finally got all of them off me and got into the house my wife gave me a bottle of Benedryl, which I gulped down. I then told her I'd be in the shower...where she found me face down on the floor. I woke up in the E-R where they told me they removed over 40 stingers from my shoulder area.

When daughter was 7 years old she fell in the hay on a bumble nest and could not get up out of the hole. Stung over 100 times . Thank goodness I was in the barn. Two days in the hospital and all turned out O K .

Loko, I think the hornets in OHIO are on riods or something. I've been all over America and I've never had a single sting that compares!!!

Hung out the sheets to dry one fine spring day last year. When I went out to take them down, I opened up one of the clothespins to find that a spider of some sort had made a nest in it in my absence, thousands of the little buggers went scurrying everywhere. Shook the sheet out, threw it in the dryer for good measure, and put it on the bed.
Woke up one morning a week or so later with a small, blistery welt on my forearm, near my elbow. Never seen anything like it, sort of looked like a chicken pox lesion, or like a cigarette burn, and I chided Mike about not smoking in bed and abusing me in my sleep to boot.
Itched like crazy. Swelled up into a 5 inch red welt with a crusty, oozy center. One of my bar patrons told me it looked like a brown recluse bite.
Went to the doctor and was told it was indeed a spider bite, but he could not be certain what kind of spider. After a week of treatment, it crusted over at the center and fell off. Still had a welt, though for months.
