Yep, trains and Christmas sure seem to go together, especially for those of us that received trains for Christmas when we were little. I can still remember seeing my first Lionel under the tree that Christmas morning long ago! Great memories![:)]

Got one just like it in San Diego - we also have my dad's little red yard engine with a bell on either end - from the 20's I believe. He used to collect Lionel trains/equiptment.

zipperzap, I'm sure you already know this, but there is a very nice model railroad exhibit and museum at Balboa Park, if you enjoy operating model trains. When we lived in San Diego I always enjoyed going there and watching the various layouts in operation.

Having some of your dad's old model train items makes for some really nice keepsakes, especially the very early items!

I don't know if it is still there, but Frank the Train Man (Cooley Museum) on Park Boulevard was a great place to go for model train stuff and the museum section had some rare antique automobiles, toys, etc. Frank the Train Man was originally a Lionel dealer and service center back in the 40's and 50's. Even as late as about 2004 I purchased some nice new in the box Lionel that dated back to the early 50's from the new owner after he relocated the store to a different location on Park Boulevard. I even have the old Oak Wall Telephone that was in the original store back in the 40's.
