Just because you have a degree
It does not mean poop. Well I made it through final week just fine but in the process of work and study I ran into a person studying for a history exam.
This gets ugly pretty fast to pre warn you.
A fellow was quizing this girl on the subject of the civil war and he asked her off one of her note cards who the President of the Conferacy was. Her reply sent me into a state of shock and anger. She answered U. S. Grant! I piped in and said you should be ashamed of yourself. U. S. Grant was the commander of all union armies towards the later part of the war Jefferson Davis of South Carolina was president. This girl should not be allowed to be a U. S. Citizen to care that little about American History.

Got one to top that:
A few years ago at APG, I was escorting a young E-5 hispanic female to the E-6 board. (I didn't recommend her she was the CSMs "girl")
Anyways, she comes and sits in the board, I'm in the corner of the room taking notes on her. They proceed to ask her questions. She is marginal AT BEST when it comes to giving the correct answers.
Then the kicker:
Board Member: Ok SGT, who was the country's first commander in chief?
Soon-to-be-E6: uhhhhhhh.............. George Washington Bush?
At that point, I put my notes down and put them away. I looked at the board members and they didn't seem phased by the answer. When she left, I stood up and told them she didn't deserve to pass the board because of the answers she gave. The CSM stood up for her and gave some excuse for her.
He sent her to airborne school enroute to Korea when she PCSed a few months later. OH BTW, guess where the CSM was on orders to???
Man, I've seen some winners in my time.
In hindsite, I should have insisted her "real" supervisor escort her into the board. She was only working in my Division as a supply clerk. If she HAD been mine, she damned sure woulda been ready for the board.....

classico95, what you said about foreginers knowing more about American history is true! it is wierd, but the average australian kid knows a lot more about U.S. history than they do about australian history..me and a lot of other people often just shake our head at how the education system is failing kids here these days. 0 -

Principal of the Middle School in the district I work for stated in a newsletter that the American Revolution started on September something-or-another, 1778. When I made a joke of it, by way of calling him on his mistake, he declared that, A. it wasn't that important a piece of information; and, B. how could I be sure he was wrong, anyhow?
Because I don't have a degree, y'see.... I must not know squat. The irony of it is, administrators and teachers on the K-12 level basically take the attitude that nothing worth knowing is learned until college. Never occurs to them that basically they consider their own jobs to be a waste of time -- and taxpayer money.
The beauty of the low expectations held by all these eddicated folks is, all I gots t'do is spell mah own name rite an' they tinks I's a gene-ass.
