The owner of one of the local gunshops mentioned that he thought someone (maybe Universal, maybe not) was manufacturing the M-1 Carbine again. Probably imported from eastern Europe or Turkey, I'd guess. Has anyone heard about this? I'd like one as a SHTF shooter, so am not necessarily looking for a GI relic -- although they are cool.
Auto-Ordnance / Kahr is making them. According to the link below they are made in U.S.A.

You also may want to consider a re-manufacturer such as Miltech Arms.

Theirs are a few more bucks, but are made on original receivers with new barrels and stocks. If you are truly interested, it may be worth your while to spend some time on the telephone with them.

Has anybody bought an A/O M1 carbine? If so, I would like to know if USGI Milspec parts are interchangeable. Thanks in advance for the heads-up. Joe

Whew! That's a lot more than I just paid for the real one I got from the CMP. I still need a sling & oiler but their price for that is out of sight as well.

I didn't like the rear sight on the new AO model I handled. Just a lonely little peep sight where the rear assembly should be [xx(]You can also buy a real one for the price.

Thanks, Don and others, for the info. Yes, they cost more than a used GI original, but I want something I could shoot the snot out of. Might still get a GI one later, to dress up and keep, but this one's gonna get scuffed and scratched! I'm off to the A-O web site now.
