Arkansas Deer Hunt, partially successful (PIC)

We retired last year and moved back to Texas from California, so after about a 30 year hiatus from deer hunting I had two goals this year; 1) take at least one nice legal buck and 2) take a nice legal buck with an old Winchester Lever Action or Colt Single Action. I hunted two locations in Arkansas and could have easily and legally filled all four deer tags with a combination of does, button bucks, or spikes (under 2 inches), but I didn't need that much meat. I didn't achieve goal number 2, but I did achieve goal number 1. The picture is the 6 point buck I took with my 1956 vintage Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in 30-06, so I at least got a deer with an older Winchester. Both of the deer's brow tines were broken, but one had enough length remaining to make it legal. The deer was bigger than its number of points would have suggested and it filled a lot of space in our freezer and will make for some good eating.

Even though deer season continues through December 16th in the areas of Arkansas I hunt, my deer season ended earlier this week. There's too much to do around here prior to my wife and I flying out to San Diego in a few weeks to spend Christmas with our daughter.
