This one has been around quite a while, partially true with a few falshoods

I was young, but remember seeing Lee Marvin on Carson discussing his experiences as a Marine in WII. He never said anything about Capt. Kangaroo being a hero at Iwo Jima, probably because Marvin wasn't there.

However, he did tell about being wounded on Saipan and described having to lie face down in a hospital bed for close to a year.

It was interesting to hear him tell something he discovered while lying wounded for hours on Saipan. He said the most useless thing in the world is calling for help when there's no one there to hear you.

I should also mention that Marvin appeared to be totally hammered during this appearance.

quote:The Sergeant's name is Bob Keeshan. You and the world know him as Captain Kangaroo."

Wait a minute, I thought Sgt Keeshan was the guy that rescued all the POWs left behind in Vietnam, then raided Entebbe and freed a bunch of people, then flew to an asteroid headed for Earth and blew it up, then piloted Apollo 13 to Mars and saved the universe.

    [?]Must be a different guy.

likem hot beat me to it, but even without checking snopes this one sounded a little too coincidental to be true.

I remember seeing that episode of Carson. Marvin was slurring some of his words (I think he had a "low ball" glass in his hand) and talked about diving into a little depression, to protect his head, and that's when he took a round in the butt! [:0]

Nothing you receive via e-mail purporting to be revealing, or uplifting is true, why can't people stop sending this junk?

Mr. Rogers wasn't a Navy Seal! Those are all yakuza tatoos he was covering up.

And why does the writer think Arlington National Cemetary is just for Generals?

Please. Not this same bit again. Lee Marvin did not fight in Iwo Jima.
He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for being wounded in Siapan. He was not awarded the Navy Cross. Capt. Kangaroo although a Marine did not serve in combat. The war ended prior to his tour. Mr. Rogers never served in the Military.

Fifty years from now, we will be hearing stories about how a young Texas Air National Guard lieutenant single-handedly stopped the Mexican invasion.
