Hard decision
While picking a house, my choice came down to an old really cool farm house in the plains, about 30 minutes outta town (which is perfect, means I won't hear traffic and all that) on more land, just little over 35 acres, and a newer house which seems pretty comfortable, a little funky layout but nothing that can't be fixed, also about 15-20 minutes from closest town, but in a more populated area in the mountains on 4 flat acres with a barn. More land less house or more house less land? what would you do?

You have flat mountains? Don0 -
for me less house more land
keeps someone else from building too close or being too nosey
you can always build on later, re-model add outbuilding etc.0 -
farmhouse! 0 -
If the 35 acres is wooded, I would lean toward that one. If it is grass and has to be mowed, I would think twice. 0 -
I prefer more space and a nicer house. 0 -

In Colorado Springs, the elk will mow the grass.0 -
To many variables.
Doesn't matter what WE'D want, what do YOU want?0 -

farmhouse!
[:)] Going to be a very very very hard decision. Both places are pretty cool. Farmhouse is over a hundred years old and is restored but needs a bit of work still and is probably going to be harder to sell if i were to sell it...0 -

Yeah, I know. I want the newer home to be where it is on 35+ acres. [:D]0 -

If you work in town, sixty miles round trip every day gets old in a hurry. 0 -
Farmhouse - character can't be built in - it has to grow with age.
I'm old, and I have character.

I second the nomination. Don0 -
Do what ever YOU want to do. If I had to take care of 35 acres I would be wishing it was only 4 acres. Plus I spend more time in my house than I do outside so I prefer to have a nicer house. ALong with that I personally would not want to drive 80 miles round trip just to buy groceries, well not at over $3.00 per gallion I wouldn't 0 -
JamesRK: I will be commuting from bed to my desk, I suspect it's going to be from top floor to the bottom.
Doug: That's definitely a good factor to put into the decision, however right it most likely will be outweighted by other things, like comfort level, winter weather, resale possibility (not that I am going to have to in a while, but anything can happen) and all that.0 -

Good point as well.0 -
I can't believe the most important question has not been asked! Which one can you shoot on and build your own shooting range? Unless it's neither or both problem solved.[}:)] 0 -

haha. I am actually surprised too it hasn't been asked. It's definitely one of deciding factors [:D]0 -
If you have more land, you can always build more house.
I've got Dan'l Boone syndrome, though. I like space.0 -
get the 35 acres pick a good site to build a new house. Subdivide the property, sell the old house on its acreage and have a beer. 0 -
Any place where there is less people and more shooting room. That's where I would go. I love my 10 acres. 0 -

In GA, bubba's use goats to mow the grass. As a bonus you get to have roasted goat for Sunday dinner. Yum!0 -
35 acres all the way. 0 -
You can safely set up a range and shoot on 35 acres... 0
