for me less house more land
keeps someone else from building too close or being too nosey
you can always build on later, re-model add outbuilding etc.

If the 35 acres is wooded, I would lean toward that one. If it is grass and has to be mowed, I would think twice.

I prefer more space and a nicer house.

In Colorado Springs, the elk will mow the grass.

    To many variables.

Doesn't matter what WE'D want, what do YOU want?

[:)] Going to be a very very very hard decision. Both places are pretty cool. Farmhouse is over a hundred years old and is restored but needs a bit of work still and is probably going to be harder to sell if i were to sell it...

Yeah, I know. I want the newer home to be where it is on 35+ acres. [:D]

If you work in town, sixty miles round trip every day gets old in a hurry.

Farmhouse - character can't be built in - it has to grow with age.

I'm old, and I have character.

Do what ever YOU want to do. If I had to take care of 35 acres I would be wishing it was only 4 acres. Plus I spend more time in my house than I do outside so I prefer to have a nicer house. ALong with that I personally would not want to drive 80 miles round trip just to buy groceries, well not at over $3.00 per gallion I wouldn't

JamesRK: I will be commuting from bed to my desk, I suspect it's going to be from top floor to the bottom.

Doug: That's definitely a good factor to put into the decision, however right it most likely will be outweighted by other things, like comfort level, winter weather, resale possibility (not that I am going to have to in a while, but anything can happen) and all that.

I can't believe the most important question has not been asked! Which one can you shoot on and build your own shooting range? Unless it's neither or both problem solved.[}:)]

If you have more land, you can always build more house.

I've got Dan'l Boone syndrome, though. I like space.

get the 35 acres pick a good site to build a new house. Subdivide the property, sell the old house on its acreage and have a beer.

Any place where there is less people and more shooting room. That's where I would go. I love my 10 acres.

In GA, bubba's use goats to mow the grass. As a bonus you get to have roasted goat for Sunday dinner. Yum!
