need opinions..new project....BRUTE..
I have a chance to sell my gmc truck and make a little on it..I have always been a jeep [8D] man and can't shake it.With that said here is a link to my next project should I sell the truck.I had a 2001 jeep tj and liked it very well..this vehicle will be my go to rig..what do you all think?..likes or dislikes.make sure you look thru the photo gallery..lets here it all, the more the merrier..[:D][8D]..Loko..[can't believe nobodys got an opinion on here[good or bad]

This is kinda an update on the Scrambler - My dad had one, and we beat the snot out of that thing, going across the Mojave, and up to Skywalker ranch, across fields of boulders the size of medicine balls (bigger than basketballs) for miles...if the Brute comes with a Turbocharged,fuel injected V-8, Automatic trans, and some 35 inchers, it could be the best ever. I just need a few extra inches of Knee Room over the Scrambler.

I like the straight 6cyl 4 litre HO engine for the Jeeps. Has torque out the ass and runs forever with minimal maintenance. I didn't know they were remaking a Scrambler version. I always liked them although with locking hubs in 4 wheel drive,if you oversteered it would tear the steering gearbox and linkage apart. 0 -

BDJ,..This is a newer [tj] jeep w/the 6cyl.4.0 you have to buy the kit from AEV to lengthen the frame and add the 14 ga. steel bed as well as the cap for the tub where you cut it and the half hard top..I just can't leave well enough alone..so I will upgrade its axles/motor and trans/transfer case..I wish Jeep would build it from the factory..[:D][^]..Loko0 -

Damn you LOKO you really have got my wheels turning. I have a YJ that I am ready to sell to but a TJ so I can Brute it up. Any one want to buy a 89 jeep, 98 GMC and 06 Tundra let me know. Shoot I will even sell the Harley for the Brute or FJ-450 -

My 4 wheel drive truck is a special order '76 GMC 1 ton crew cab. There are bevelled hardened gears instead of chains for the timing and tranfer case. The transfer case has three PTO's that run at various speeds and rotations for running generators, pumps, farm equipment or whatever. The low range gearbox has a sub-gear that tops out in 4 wheel drive at around 2mph. The front and rear axles and differentials are the same ones they used on their 2.5 ton dump trucks. I built a 4 bolt 350 to run in it that could have gone in a race car except that I cammed it way down for massive torque and a little better than the stock 6 mpg it originally got. It can run on the highways just fine as long as you have plenty of ramp to get up to speed although most people get out of it's way pretty good when I am coming onto the highway. It was put together by GMC for a fire department and I got it from them for $600 at auction. It had 17000 original miles on it when I got it in '96. I only use it now if there is a lot of snow or if I need to haul something a normal truck can't pull. I call it the Beast. 0 -

Nice read thanks. I love the mid to late 70's Checy trucks, mainly 1 tons. Dad had two. Still has a '73. My first truck was a '78 we took out the 3 speed column shift and put dual wheels and extra springs on it along with a flatbed.
Spicer used to make a trencher that was a GMC afroengineering marvel. The engine was a straight six. The trany first a four speed that went to a transfer case on its side. The top of the transfer case ran the the trenching wheel. THe bottom output went three more transmissions, all GM 4 speeds hooked up in one long unit. There was a lot of transmission levers going back to the operators platform. The tranny sat on a slight angle. Oil would flow through all 3. I think is had a handpump to circulate it back to the first tranny. The front axle was a GM 2 ton 4X4 axle. The back was walking axles with a GM differential. It was a 6X6.
I think Dad still has one of those 3 tranny units in the shed.0 -
